ARTIST NEWS
Read the reflection of Julia Robinson’s recent solo exhibition ‘The Felling Place’, written by Wendy Walker for Barefoot Review.

About this body of work, Walker writes: “Over the course of more than twenty years of her textile-based practice, she has developed a knack for tackling universal themes by burrowing into predominantly historical narratives that veer towards the macabre. “The best stories in life”, she has stated, “are about s*x, death and rebirth and for me this is why folklore always feels so relevant.”

David Booth [Ghostpatrol]’s ‘Rearranging the Universe’ is now showing at Hugo Michell Gallery.

“I’ve been building a new practice of play and experimentation in the studio; twisting the dials, changing the filters and volumes on different things, practicing turning away from ideas of scarcity and focusing on abundance. An abundance of ability to create and make anew, ‘Rearranging the Universe’ is one of the results of this.”

Read the recent InReview feature article on Alfred Lowe’s practice an exhibition ‘A GREAT AND WONDROUS SIGN’, currently showing at Hugo Michell Gallery.

Speaking about his work with Walter Marsh, Alfred shares: “It’s about this idea of looking to the future and looking for a sign, really,” he says of the exhibition’s title.

“You know, I’m lucky enough in life to be in a place where the future is really open to me now. It hasn’t always been that way in my life; I’ve spent most of it sort of just surviving, and so now I’m sort of in a better place.”

Alfred Lowe’s ‘A GREAT AND WONDROUS SIGN’ is showing until 20th June.

ONLINE SHOP FEATURE
James Dodd’s ‘Lava’ works are a series of unique editioned artworks, an extension of the ongoing Painting Mill project, which are available through the Hugo Michell Gallery Online Shop.

"The Painting Mill project continues to form a core of my practice, around which other things oscillate. I consider the Painting Mill as a celebration of basic machines and the way they are incorporated into our lives and creative practices. In this case, the machine becomes a tool and a process that is integrated into my painting practice, which is a broader exploration of colour and abstraction."

Ready to hang, the Lava editions are framed in folded and brushed aluminium tray frame, a nod to the appearance of aluminium in other areas of Dodd's practice and presentation.

Unique edition of 12.

David Booth [Ghostpatrol]’s ‘Rearranging the Universe’ is now showing at Hugo Michell Gallery.

About his process, David shares: “Using a multitude of stamps for this rapid printing technique allowed me to make many experiments and plenty of failures. The process left me energised and inspired for the next possible rearrangement. I unlocked and freed myself from pressure I often put on my work - to control, draft or simply not give the work enough time to breathe.”
