udent of Belly Dance Amethyst is about empowering yourself while learning self-expression through this vibrant
style of dance in a welcoming environment. We teach a choreography in most classes except those marked at technique only. Why do we teach choreography? Firstly, it's fun and our students enjoy learning it and performing it at our end of term parties. Secondly, each choreography will entail a different skill set of dance techniques. Your term teacher identifies the technique skill set required for the term choreography at the beginning of term and then sets aside 20-30 minutes of each lesson drilling those techniques. The more classes a student does the more technique they learn; therefore becoming a more accomplished dancer. Thirdly, a choreography puts technique into context and style, be that a folk tradition or Classical or Tribal Fusion; for example, Saidi techniques put into a Saidi style choreography, Tribal Fusion techniques put into a Tribal Fusion style etc. So not only does a student learn technique and choreography. they also learn the historical and cultural meanings of what they are learning.

If you are interested in dancing this style of belly dance, we danc Thursday evenings in Mile End. Some belly dance experience required and I recommend attending the Barre Fitness that is scheduled also on Thursdays.
