Three years after their debut album release was shafted to the hairy hilt by the monumental f**k up / rip off that was Bitter Loss Records, Aussies Lumen Ad Mortem are back – this time collaborating with the far more reputable Hypnotic Dirge Records to unleash 'A Grave Ascent', their sophomore offering. After a cinematic intro (literally, this s**t is music from a film score) the band proceeds to decimate all with their unique brand of tumultuous darkness, blasting and surging, broiling and seething like lava from the abyss. The emotional, yearning title track is a firm favourite – that quintessential piano intro makes the decades melt away – but the entire record is a well-crafted work that feels timeless and will accumulate many repeat listens.
