Next one SOLD at Ex Animo Art Gallery in Hyde Park in Adelaide - near Nido’s - my abstract of patterns in a lovely river red gum, which I’d titled ‘Birdsong’. I loved painting this one - it felt like a state of flow from start to finish. Gone to its new home - thanks Andreas and Ex Animo and the lovely collector who bought it 🙂. Some@pics of it unframed and then framed.

Two paintings sold off the walls at Ex Animo Art Gallery, and two that haven’t yet sold but I’m sure will in the next week or two! The two as yet unsold are ‘Powerful Owls’ - an abstract of patterns in a sugar gum in Adelaide, and ‘Blues Evening’ - an abstract of patterns in a river red gum in the Barossa 🙂. Both paintings are part of my Australian Landscapes series, and both have strong ‘Where’s Wally’ vibes, with many hidden or almost-hidden creatures.

Unley Gala event went well on Saturday night- Ex Animo Art Gallery on King William Road was open for the evening and there are red dots 🔴 on 2 of the 8 paintings of mine on display - the black pine portrait and the mountain ash eucalyptus portrait. Two sold, six to go, lots of interest from the public - yay!- and in the meanwhile I am painting like crazy in the studio - more paintings in the Australian Landscapes series, as well as a second series to be unveiled near the end of 2024 🙂🙂🙂.

The beginnings of my newest Treebark, or Tree-Spirit painting- inspired by the patterns in a river red gum tree in Mitcham Reserve in Adelaide. It’s beginning to flow now which makes me happy! 102cm W x 152cm H oil on canvas. 🙂

People sometimes see the animals in my Treebark paintings, and sometimes they need a little help to see what I’ve seen in the bark patterns in the trunk 😁. This is my painting ‘Dance of the Animals’ and it’s inspired by the patterns in the trunk of a paperbark tree in Alexandria in Sydney. I’ve circled and numbered 8 animals in the painting- some more obvious than others. Let me know in the comments which ones you identify 🙂. Link in bio to my website to see more.

I’ve just come back from a walk along the Brownhill Creek trail and couldn’t help but take photos of some of the trees there - I’m planning more Treebark paintings of the patterns in the trunks of trees, and what pareidolic images they conjure up. Have a look at some of these beauties 🙂.

This still has to be one of my all-time favourite paintings that I’ve done - ‘Girl with Kingfisher’ and it is based on the bark patterns in a river red gum in South Australia. The tree is in Currency Creek near Middleton and Victor Harbor, and the patterns on the trunk inspired this as a final version- but there are probably three earlier versions underneath it, so it is super-textured! It is part of the SALA exhibition in Coast Hair in Henley Beach - and will be there for the month of August unless it sells off the walls 🙂.

Another SALA venue for the whole month of August- Henley Beach Dental Practice in Henley Beach Road. Yesterday was quite a runaround getting all the paintings up - but I’m so pleased to be invited and able to take part again this year 🙂🙂.

National Tree Day 🌳 in Australia- today! Here are eleven as yet unsold South Australian tree paintings in oils that I’ve painted over the past year or two - most, but not all, of them river red gums. These are the ones that are easily recognisable as trees, where I haven’t played too freely with abstraction. I hope you like them 🙂. Link to my website in my bio if you’d like to see more of my work 😁.
