Her name is Miss Ballerina and she lives in the top drawer.
She is a pipe cleaner brush. She comes out when we are painting, and she has exactly one rule: she stays on her tippy toes, never on her bottom. On her toes the tip does the painting and the mark stays crisp. On her bottom she is squashed flat and the mark disappears.
Three and four year olds do not remember “hold it properly”. They remember a rule with a picture attached. Give the tool a name, give it one rule, and you stop correcting the grip twenty times a session.
