The Reserve Bank of Australia has delivered a blunt warning to households, admitting that a surge in unpredictable global "supply shocks" is forcing an unavoidable economic trade-off.

The local football community is in mourning after a devastating incident on Saturday afternoon left a 27-year-old player fighting for his life.

Nathan Fitzgerald was playing for Epping against Lalor in a Northern Football Netball League reserves match in Melbourne's north when he collided heads with a teammate. Following the clash, his head struck the ground.

Medical teams from both clubs immediately rushed onto the field to treat him, including administering CPR, before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Tragically, the Epping Football Netball Club has confirmed that his condition deteriorated overnight. He has now been placed into end-of-life care.

"We are devastated to share that our much loved teammate (and) clubman, Nathan Fitzgerald's condition deteriorated overnight and is now receiving end-of-life care," the club shared in a statement, adding that the entire Fitzgerald family is in their thoughts.

All subsequent matches for the club were cancelled over the weekend as the community rallies to support the family and teammates during this deeply distressing time.
