U3A Yarra City Inc.

U3A Yarra City Inc. U3A - the University of the Third Age - is an international movement for seniors. We started in May 2005 and we have about 350 members so far.

We are a young organisation, still very open to new ideas and very welcoming of new members. Members can be tutors, learners, administrative workers, or all three. Activities are held during the day, during school hours and school terms, and in various venues in Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton, North Carlton, Fitzroy, North Fitzroy and Abbotsford. We are an incorporated association. Reg: AC047182K


Yarra City U3A is a volunteer-run learning co-operative. It relies upon the huge resource of skills and experience of our members and others in the community to be voluntary tutors or course leaders, or to assist in administration, program planning and publicity. Quite often, members are leaders in some classes and learners in others. This freely given time and effort keeps our running costs and our membership fees very low. The purpose of this page is to promote the positive activities of U3A Yarra City and to share information that is relevant or of interest to members of U3A or seniors more broadly. Comments and opinions on issues which are outside of the purposes of the page and will be deleted by the administrators. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us. As far back as the 1850s, slums existed in inner city Melbourne. In the 1930s, Frederick Barnett began taking photos of the slums, using them in a push for social reform.
