We trim the Bass Drum Pendant using a Japanese tool made out of tungsten carbide. The sharp tool gives the crisp variegated lines in the surface of the pendant.

Did you know that a porcelain pendant will shrink 16% from the time it is thrown on the wheel to the end of the 1300 degree firing. That means a pendant that is 530cm in diameter needs to start out at 614cm wide!!
This pendant has been thrown and turned, and has done about half of its shrinking. The rest will happen in the kiln when the silica melts and pulls in nice and tight to become a tough translucent surface.
