about - ATAMATOKUCHI -
ATAMATOKUCHI is a juggling company started by Yuri Yamamura and Hisashi Watanabe in 2015. The duo thinks of juggling as a oppotunity to dig deep into a unique movement material and investigate the connection between movement, dance and juggling. They also aspire a nonhierarchical relationship between body and objects.
Hisashi Watanabe, a professional contemporary dancer, and Yuri Yamamura, one of the top jugglers in Japan, met in the live circus festival in 2014 where Watanabe was performing. Promt, they realized that they share similar thoughts and opinions on the relationship between a body and objects. Soon after, they planned to work together, and in December 2015, they presented a first joint performance, named “MONOLITH” in Tokyo and formed the new company ATAMA TO KUCHI.
The performance approached doubts on the "stereotype of juggling”, seen just as a part of street performance and/or circus shows. Their high abilities in using the body and objects, their sensitivity in relation to space, and their creativity to create a world only by using their bodies and balls, stunned the crowd across dance, circus, and juggling fields. As a result, despite of the short career, they attract great attention and expectations in the field of performing arts and got invited to perform in a public theater. At the end of this year, the duo will relocate their workspace to Toulouse / France, with the support of the circus art center Le Lido and will tour around Europe.
