LABACK LAW and FRUHSTORFER LAW are pleased to invite you to another vernissage at our offices in Rotenturmstraße. For the second edition of the series „Art and Law“, a cooperation with the Viennese gallery Rudolf Leeb, we are showing works by the Viennese artist Birgit Graschopf.

Birgit Graschopf became known for her wall exposures, in which the artist exposes or develops images directly on the wall. The wall itself thus became the image carrier. Graschopf is also currently experimenting with image carriers and materials and is working on the medium of photography in terms of both material and content. She often uses materials that defy conventional taste criteria, such as fiber cement or sandpaper.

We are pleased to present the first edition of Götz Schrage’s “50 Years of Text and Photo”.
Götz Schrage has produced 120 books by hand, 60 of which we have already sold as subscriptions. A further 30 can now be purchased from the gallery as part of the book presentation.

“The medium of my work is drawing. This continues to open up new possibilities of expression for me, even after numerous years of occupation. A central aspect is the ad absurdum leading of the medium, which is as simple as it is complex. The series “brushstrokes”, for example, consists of drawn large-format brushstrokes. What seems to have been created in a few moments is actually the result of a meticulous reconstruction consisting of thousands of individual lines. The line as a central element runs through my work just as much as the means I use. The series “fighter eraser” has its origins in my collection of erasers and the drawings in this series show individual set pieces from them, but without representing them in a concrete and representational way.”

„In my pictures, I deal with questions of autonomy, power relations and the domination of (female) bodies by focusing on the breaking points of our modern society. In doing so, I address the dreams and expectations we have of our own lives, which are all too often in stark contrast to reality.
What interests me is the tipping point, the moment when everything is still in motion, when it still seems unclear in which direction things are heading. It’s like catching a quick glimpse of a distant scene: What is happening here right now? Where is it leading?“

“By presenting imagination as a kind of materialised fiction, which for her is closely linked to the idea of the relationship between presence and absence, Marinova invents her own reality and explores the deep constellations of perception, thoughts, feelings and memories. Marinova works primarily in the field of screen printing, drawing, installation and book art, using such diverse materials as fabrics, paper, transparent foils and wood as canvas for her screen prints. With such a variety of surfaces, the only constant is the large scale.“

“My work is inspired by my life, personal experiences and impressions. I try to give form to these inner aspects and emotions in my work to find a new dialogue beyond them. I understand my sculptures as intuitive drawings in space. In my working process I look for a possibility of further development and expansion beyond the purely visual or narrative level. The outer appearance of each of my objects is the equivalent for an aspect of this human inner life.

In my work I deal with fundamental questions about the emergence of identity, social and socio-political contexts and dynamics. What interests me is what it means to be human.”
