S.F.K.B.publishing // Franz West - An Outdoor Sculpture. Patricia Grzonka, ines Turian / In December 2022, a group of sculptures by Franz West was erected on Esteplatz in Vienna-Erdberg, the location of his last studio in Vienna.

From the very beginning of his artistic career, Franz West questioned the view that art objects can only be viewed reflectively. Even his earliest sculptural works, created from the mid-1970s onwards and later called Passstücke, were intended to actively involve the viewer as an equal counterpart in the process of experiencing art. The Passstücke were to be taken off the plinth and „used“ - only this would give the sculptures their true meaning and complete them. The seating objects created from the early 1980s onwards, which also invite use, took this idea further. Here, too, the reactions to the work are understood as an integral part of the work itself. Later, Franz West became interested in the idea that an interaction with the viewer takes place on a mental level. The works can be stimuli for reflection, which the artist himself often encouraged in the form of titles or texts. The large group of outdoor sculptures should also be seen in this context.

Paul Savoie, Melanie Mesager
S.F.K.B.publishing //Arc, a choreographed poem
Order at sfkb.at. „Arc” by award-winning author Paul Savoie is a poem which captures the pensive impressions of a moment and is suffused with a quiet musicality.
Savoie’s passion for and practice of music inform this long melancholy song. Mélanie Mesager, a French dancer and scholar in contemporary dance, selected a few passages (in bold in Savoie’s text) and, for these, invented a choreography to accompany the poem. Mesager’s choreographic marks do not belong to existing systems of choreographic notation; they are a distinct creation that preserves her personal reaction to an intimate text. Her notes, translated by Nicholas Hauck, provide insight into her approach. A dancer responds to a poem, translates it into embodied movement, in a language as secret as the poet’s.

S.F.K.B. Archive : Latefa Wiersch. artpop_insta (*1982 in Dortmund, Germany, lives and works in Zurich). Her work is populated by liminal beings that combine elements of human and animal, plant, object, and machine, and that pupate and transform.
Drawing on observations of everyday life and a provocative sense of humor, these figures tell stories about social realities and the life of the artist. Against the background of current discourses on identity, Latefa Wiersch confronts the gaps in her own history. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a performance with the Dandara Modesto and Rhoda Davids Abel.
