BEYOND THE LIES explores the violent suppression of protests in Iran in November 2019, when a nationwide internet blackout allowed killings and human rights violations to take place in secrecy. When the internet was partially restored, citizens’ videos revealed a reality that sharply contradicted the state narrative.

The documentary also follows the independent People’s Tribunal held in London in 2021, where survivors, relatives of victims, and witnesses testified in search of truth and justice.

Followed by a discussion with director Mahnaz Mohammadi.

Admission is first come, first served.

Freier Eintritt
Einlass nach dem Prinzip first come, first served – bitte früh kommen.

Today is Human Rights Day.
Cinema is not only a mirror of our world, but also a space where voices are heard, stories are protected, and conversations are sparked.

At this human world, every film, conversation, and encounter is rooted in one belief:
that human rights belong to everyone, everywhere — always.

This year, our program brought together films from more than 50 countries, perspectives that challenge, unsettle, inspire, and empower. Through the courage of filmmakers and the openness of our audiences, we continue to shape a shared space for reflection, dialogue, and change.

For the past 10 days, our festival has been a meeting place for over 80 programs and films from more than 50 countries. We travelled across continents, histories, and lived experiences — all through the medium of cinema. These encounters have shaped a festival full of dialogue, emotion, and discovery.

Thank you to all our sponsors, partners, and collaborators, to our founders Lisa and Johannes Wegenstein, our directors Isabella Flucher and Erika Borsos, our team, our jury members and to our audience, whose commitment, curiosity, and presence have made this edition possible. Thank you for filling these days with energy and openness.
