This is why I love doing art: one has the best offices in the world! And one can bring the dog to work. Now I reached the thickest part of the it has 80-100 cm in diameter. So I need to split it to be able to transport it. Walnut is very hard to split. I split it along cracks that are already in the wood - that are the weakest parts of the tree. And I have great help from my dog - she is a wood expert. Sometimes it feels like the tree doesn’t want to leave its place where it stood for about 140-150 years. I feel sorry for the tree.

This amazing walnut tree - which became the cover foto of my first book - was a view weeks ago felled! The tree was perfectly healthy - why it was felled I don’t know. It is heartbreaking to see this wonderful tree lying in the meadow. I talked to the owner today what his plans are for the wood - he has none and gave the tree to me. Which is great - considering the sad event. Now I have to get this 4,5 m long and with a diameter ranging from 30 cm to 1 m , tree out of the forest and to my studio. Quite a challenge! Either I find someone with a big truck or I chop it into small pieces. Today I started to work on one small branch to see in what condition it is. I also love the smell. I worked next to my baby walnut tree - I hope the tree didn’t mind…

Inspired by the Egyptian cat mummies this new series I started is dedicated to the death cats of that ancient times. restoring a from around 1900 at First I needed to loosen rusty nails by heating them. The joints where glued again with animal glue and first the wood was made warm , which is better for the gluing process. In the end black Schellak was aplied. The chair has a funny element: a place where you can put your hat beneath the seat.
