Hello everyone,
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that, after nearly 21 years, we will be closing STIL-LADEN.
Over the past few months, we have done everything we possibly could to keep the shop alive. Unfortunately, our expansion did not succeed and ultimately led to a situation where continuing the business is no longer possible.
STIL-LADEN has been the biggest passion project of my life. Over the last two decades, I have poured all the love and passion I have for skateboarding and its culture into this project. Together, we shared countless contests, exhibitions, video premieres, tours, and parties. Through this shop, so many unforgettable memories were created, and they will stay in my heart forever.
As some of you may have noticed, many independent shops are currently struggling to survive. Some are facing the same reality we are and are being forced to close their doors as well. For the future, I hope that people will once again appreciate local retail businesses—especially small, independently owned shops. They have always been, and continue to be, an essential part of the scene, whether in skateboarding or any other community.
The big chains, often operating without any real soul or genuine connection to the products they sell, may be the ones left standing in the end. But what happens then to the culture and passion that make skateboarding and other movements so special? They risk becoming empty pastimes, stripped of their identity, culture, and meaning.
I hope there will be a shift in mindset before it’s too late, and that the age of online shopping and social media doesn’t leave us as disconnected people, sitting alone in front of screens with no real social connection. Because if there’s one thing skateboarding has taught me, it’s this: the best adventures happen in real life—not in the digital world.
So put your phone down, go out into the city or into nature, spend time with your friends and family, and live real life.
