Whirling dervishes perform a dance called the sema. It is a religious dance performed to achieve divine knowledge and love though a personal relationship with God. The sema began in 13th century from the influence of Turkish culture and the inspiration of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. However, the practice of whirling may have originated in Central Asia long before Rumi where shamans used it to induce altered states of consciousness (Helminski). In order to become a dervish, young boys were required to attend schools called tekkes, where they would undergo an intense 1001-day retreat before they could perform the dance. The dervish considers himself an instrument of God so he cannot direct or retain the power that enters him. In 1925, the tekkes were closed and whirling ended until recently. Today semas are performed privately in homes or for the amusement of tourists.

A German tradition of decorating trees and bushes with Easter eggs is known as the Ostereierbaum, or Easter egg tree. So it’s not a surprise when in 2007 the largest Easter egg tree was decorated in Rostock, Germany with 76,596 painted hens eggs.
In 2017 the new world record was set with 82,404 painted hen eggs and was achieved by Associação Visite Pomerode (Brazil), at the 9º Osterfest, in Pomerode, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
And even though we love decorations and traditions we wish that the new world record will be set cruelty free and with that in mind we wish you a healthy and happy Easter 🐤🐣🐥

What a wonderful year we had, full of stunning new people, exciting stories, great adventures and events! From 18th Asian Art Biennale via festivals across Europe to magical India! Indeed India is such a fascinating country and we couldn’t be happier to take part at the 5th Art Meet in Pilani, Rajasthan!
