Helmut Fischer Artists International is delighted that two of our singers, Michael Spyres and Federico Fiorio, are among the finalists for the 2026 Austrian Music Theatre Awards.

Federico Fiorio has earned a nomination for Best Male Supporting Role for his praised portrayal of Sesto in Handel’s "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" at the 2025 Salzburg Festival, in Dmitri Tcherniakov’s production conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm.

The winners will be announced on September 8.

Just weeks after his hugely acclaimed all-Baroque recital, Tenorissimo, Michael Spyres returns to the Salzburg Festival as one of the four soloists in Verdi’s monumental "Messa da Requiem", conducted by Riccardo Muti and performed by the Vienna Philharmonic. Performances take place today, August 15, and on August 16 and 18.

One of today’s most versatile and acclaimed tenors, the Missouri-born singer brings his extraordinary stylistic range, vocal brilliance, and dramatic insight to Verdi’s deeply moving masterpiece. The "Requiem" reunites him with Riccardo Muti, whose interpretations of Verdi have long been regarded as benchmarks, for one of the major concert events of this year’s Salzburg Festival.

Today’s opening performance will be broadcast live on Ö1, beginning at 11:03 a.m.

Toi, toi, toi to Beth Taylor, who this morning makes her long-awaited Edinburgh International Festival debut, joining long-time collaborator Hamish Brown for a recital inspired by the sea and the enduring power of female figures from myth.

Drawing on characters including Lorelei, Cassandra, and Medusa, the program spans nearly a millennium of music, from Hildegard of Bingen to contemporary composers, with women composers at its heart. Alongside works by Clara Schumann, Lili Boulanger, Ethel Smyth, and Connie Converse, the recital includes two works written especially for the Scottish mezzo-soprano: Cameron Biles-Liddell's "The Breakers", inspired by Scotland's dramatic coastline, and the world premiere of Stuart MacRae's "Medusa", created with poet JL Williams.

The recital will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Toi, toi, toi to Michael Spyres, who this evening takes center stage at the Festival Perelada for a recital with acclaimed Spanish soprano Sara Blanch and pianist Giulio Zappa.

Celebrated for his extraordinary vocal range, stylistic versatility, and compelling stage presence, Michael Spyres has redefined the possibilities of the tenor repertoire, moving effortlessly from bel canto to French grand opera and, more recently, to Wagner. For this special evening, he joins Sara Blanch, one of Spain's leading sopranos, in a program that showcases both artists' virtuosity and dramatic flair.

The recital spans French and Italian opera, zarzuela, and song, with music by Offenbach, Gounod, Rossini, Donizetti, Thomas, Puccini, Sorozábal, Chapí, Giménez, Penella, and other celebrated composers. Together with Giulio Zappa at the piano, Michael Spyres and Sara Blanch explore a rich and varied repertoire that highlights the expressive breadth, technical brilliance, and theatrical vitality for which they are internationally renowned.
