WASTEland by claudia bosse, a performance that marked the culmination of seven months of work in a 2,500 m² outdoor studio, opened up views of the city, offered multi-sensory explorations, exposed sedimented layers and invited new forms of coexistence in urban space.

here are impressions of our 5 shows with the dancers su huber, lucia mauri, carla rihl, marcela san pedro and lena schattenberg in september, presenting a condensed version of seven months of work in a public studio, animated and surrounded by the human and more-than-human.

„i, seated in a kind of audience “in the middle of nowhere”, was enveloped by images forming around me. their moving bodies, intertwined with the landscape, told stories of forgetting, right in the heart of a monumental city. the site was shaped like the tip of an arrow – a perfect triangle carved into the city’s core, filled with rubble, mud, and resilient vegetation. […] there was pain, war, struggle. but there was also resistance, brilliance, beauty, pause, rest, and breath.“

„der geruch der stadt vermischt sich mit dem von nasser erde. ein flugzeug setzt direkt hinter uns zum dröhnenden sinkflug an. […] der konkrete ort, an dem wir uns befinden, ist eine heterotopie, die durchzogen ist von narrativen, durch die die performer*innen manövrieren, indem sie zitternd, springend und mit sich ringend von unsichtbaren machtströmen gebeutelt werden.“

Translocal Performative Environment hosted by claudia bosse is a live-installation and a place to encounter artistic works, performances, lectures, thoughts, talks, sounds as well as interactive virtual archives. the performative environment hosts artistic formats based on the long-term research – as part of the Translocal Performative Academy between 2022 and 2025 – by artists from southeast asia and europe working with space related practices.

we invite you into the pleasure of misunderstanding and productive transcultural glitches, while reflecting about the influence of geopolitical and tectonic turmoil for the future of artistic work and experimenting with new strategies of artistic peer to peer solidarity. we open this environment to encounter artistic works, tacit knowledge, spatial concepts and visions – along new ecologies, local histories and relations to digital performativity.

thank you to everyone who joined this year’s urban laboratory PPS_extended and shared an inspiring week full of encounters, conversations, experiments and dreams with us on the wasteland!

the intergenerational public performance school PPS, founded and led by , has been exploring physical, poetic, and collective practices since 2021. with PPS_extended, it annually opens an intensive laboratory in extraordinary locations, where claudia bosse shares artistic knowledge and methods with performers of all backgrounds.

this year, PPS and PPS_extended took over the 2,500 m² wasteland behind vienna’s main station — developing a multi-layered performance as part of WASTELAND dream/s, making the site and its surroundings visible.
