The 12th Brazilian Cultural Festival continues to inspire, and we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to curator Vanessa Noronha Tölle for this year’s incredible program. We are honored to have played a small part in raising awareness about the pressing issues faced by indigenous communities in Brazil and worldwide, and the urgent need to address these injustices for native nations.

The visual art exhibition, on view until December 5th, features works by non-indigenous artists alongside pieces by two talented indigenous photographers. This powerful dialogue transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, inviting visitors on a profound journey through ancestry and modernity. It offers authentic and intimate perspectives on the life, rituals, and struggles of indigenous communities.

Starting today, Austria’s leading international film event, the will showcase a curated selection of new films from around the world. Among the highlights, we recommend these two Brazilian films from 2024:

🍿“Ainda Estou Aqui” by Walter Salles, a poignant portrayal of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s autobiographical book. The film, featuring acclaimed performances by Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro, explores the personal struggles during Brazil’s military dictatorship.

🍿”Motel Destino”, an erotic thriller directed by Karim Aïnouz, blends suspense and sensuality. Known for his visually rich and atmospheric storytelling, Aïnouz’s film has been gaining attention on the festival circuit, adding a compelling dimension to this year’s lineup.

“Rather than confining his expression to the canvas, Vaz employs techniques of projection, shadow, and light to manipulate color, surface, and line in three-dimensional space. In his recent body of work, he incorporates everyday bathroom items such as towels and shower curtains that evolve dynamically through their hanging, folding, and draping, shifting shape with each manipulation. Additionally, he utilizes laser-cutting techniques on transparent Plexiglas, crafting amorphous shapes reminiscent of natural phenomena like clouds, waves, or boats.”

“Hybrid”, ed. 3/5 is part of the “Sammlung Wien Museum”, collection of the Vienna Museum.

“Animation is here used as a sociopolitical tool, where the hybrid use of computer-generated animations and digital shootings aim to provide different perspectives on ourselves and our environment, while creating a continuous interplay between an anthropocentric and a post- anthropocentric point of view. In this sense, the works experiments a postanthropocentric scenario related to a nowadays society, where the human body gets decentered and deconstructed in its whole.”
