Let´s talk about turnout. “Turnout really is an expression of what classical art is,” says And even though it is so characteristic and dancers use it constantly, it is one of the most difficult skills to achieve. This might be due to the circumstances that the deep hip rotators are placed deeply indeed, and in comparison to what they can perform they seem quite small.

Alltogether, controlling the leg axis through rotation in the hip joints, needs a lot of fine tuned coordination to use your body efficiently, and therefore prevent yourself from training with incorrect alignment and risking injuries.

But there is good news - there is room for improvement in case you are struggeling finding or using your turnout.

Need help with that? - reach out, and feel free to drop any question in the comments!

Science is not completely sure about what happens when we stretch. There might be an elongation of some cellular structures possible, or changes that are comparable.
But scientist are quite sure about the fact that by stretching, we change our level of perceiving pain. So each time we repeat a certain stretching movement, our brains are getting more and more used to the feeling, and slowly the stop fighting against it. This is what we perceive as pain.

That means one part of stretching is a mental learning process - good news, no?!?? How about we use some imagery to speed up this process?

Any ideas what you could use as an image to open a middle split more easily?

----------ger-----------

Pretty often, amateur dancers are astounded when I address them on their dream of doing pointe work.
Especially adult dancers wouldn't have guessed, that it is possible to start dancing on pointe at all.

And yes, I agree completely - you shouldn't just hop into those shoes...

Aside from the fact that you can injure yourself without proper preparation, and end up demotivated because it turn out to be quite hard, pointe shoes have something special...

They are magic for me, and kind of holy 🩰
They combine hard work, aesthetics, rituals, and a certain kind of feeling.

Nonetheless it is a wonderful feeling to dive into this world, and there are ways to do it as an amateur dancer as well.

And guess what - I love to guide people in this process :)

That's why I developed the 4Pointes Program, which is made especially for all "pointe-shoes-dreamers", but also for all those who want to improve their technique.

Did you find some part of you in this, and want to find out whether you are made for the 4Pointes Program - then, apply! Leave some 🩰 in the comments to receive all that needs to be known about it.

Why do we actually need strength (training)? Ballet dancers normally don't look like bodybuilders, no?

Because strength brings us the right coordination, and with a fine tuned strength training, which focuses on core stability to provide free ranges of motion in the arms, legs, and the head, it improves the dance performance.

How do you feel about that? Share your thoughts in the comments. 💪🏼

----------ger-----------

Was denkst du dazu? Comment! 💪🏼

Some time ago, I had the chance to discuss the topic of dance teachers' health with my own teacher, college, and friend Judith-Elisa Kaufmann .

Here you can listen into it! Feel free to leave a comment on your thoughts about dealing with the workload as dance teacher.

Did you know that the actual work our body is doing during recovery?? There is the deception that the work is done only in the ballet room, but this is just half of the truth.

During training you use up the energy you have and stress is put onto your body and damages cells e.g.. Afterwards, while you sleep or take a rest the body is building up what needs to be restored, and as "a bonus" builds up a bit more than there was before, because the body wants o be prepared for the next input. This is called supercompensation and a pretty fascinating procedure.

So next time you take a rest (or are forced to stop for a short time), take it easy and rely on the superpower of your body ;) which will bring you back in a better shape after enjoing a pause instead of pushing through, what actually can lead to irreversible damage in the long run.

Talking about recovery….it´s not only about the dancers´ recovery. Let´s not forget about their teachers!!

Most often the day of dance teachers isn´t over after class. A lot of preparation work, reflection, administration, team work,... is following to provide good support for their dancers.
Aside from the mental stress, the physical loads must not be underrated. Dance teachers often have imbalanced muscles due to exaggerated, one-sided marking on cold bodies.

During my education to become a dance teacher, I often asked myself how big the actually load on dance teachers is, how they cope with pain, and whether there could be some rules to follow to improve dealing with the workload as dance teacher.
I ended up writing my diploma paper on this topic, and would like to share with you some of the ideas to stay healthy or keep old injuries low, based on scientific research.

Follow the stories during the next days, to stay up to date and receive some details!

Do you want to because you have the feeling your potential is not yet exploited fully? You might struggle in your development, are prone to injuries, and search for your own way to become a stronger artistic personality?

This program is made especially for advanced or experienced dancers - to improve dance skills by going a step deeper, involving movement analysis, biomechanics, anatomy, imagery, goal setting, and dance medicine.

Send me a short message for details and the application form! Looking forward to hearing from you!

We want to avoid injuries not just because they are painful and bring a lot of difficulties with them.
There is also this constant fear of dancers to loose time and trace. But there is one thing for sure, fear doesn't help your recovery, and recovery doesn't actually mean that you are loosing precious time!

Its the exact opposite!!!
If we change our perception of it and with that change how we spend this time.

Here is a thought: Instead of "just" watching a ballet class, try to give yourself a detailed focus, and work on your imaginative skills. It takes quite some practice to be able to dance a full ballet class just in your head :) Give it a try!

Do you have any more ideas on how to use the time during recovery? Comment!

Comment!

A huge part of injury prevention is a good aerobic endurance.
You ask yourself why? Here are some facts.

✓ A good endurance accelerates recovery, and slows down fatigue.
✓ Aside from that, it makes your energy use more efficient, so you can keep your attention more easily.

Sounds good, no?
And I promise you it is fun too ;)

With a good endurance capacity you can feel that you are stronger, and you can show your potential in doing what you love - dancing!

Are you thinking of going for a run again? This might be a good opportunity to build up some endurance, but if you want, I can show you a more "ballety" endurance program.

Contact me, to find out what you need and how to achieve your goals best. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
