Let fungi guru wisdom meet minds | turn us new

What does queering mean in the context of artistic expression that goes beyond art production — beyond the artwork itself — and reaches into the institutions of art? Through concrete examples from areas such as exhibitions and curating, performances and shows, as well as book design and publishing, this question will be explored. How can queering challenge and question the normative structures of museums or other art institutions by addressing issues that are specific to these institutions? Experts such as Mika Maruyama (researcher and curator, board member of the Association of Visual Artists of Austria, VBKÖ) and Michal Leszuk (researcher and curator, Kevin Space) will be invited for discussions.

The focus of these intimate conversations is on the students’ independent artistic work. What do we need to move forward with our practise?

“The individual conversations are about the students ambitions in film and their struggle with art. I offer myself as a conversation partner, hoping to help expand their ideas. We’re always struggling with anxieties or dilemmas. When I sense these underlying issues, I address them respectfully and we talk about them. At the same time, I also dare to challenge the other person, to lure them out of their comfort zone”. (Philipp Fleischmann)

We are excited to announce that Daniel Owusu will be creating one of our two new TRAILERS for the upcoming 2024/2025 study program.

Daniel Owusu is a London based artist and technician working across time-based media, installation, writing and architecture. His practice seeks to investigate the critical role that memory plays in the underlying processes and legacies of material culture over time. He’s a member of the artist workers‘ co-op not/nowhere and a graduate of School Friedl Kubelka for Independent Film.

Since 2014, the „School for Independent Film“ has been inviting two graduates to make a short, one-minute film. The ‚TRAILER‘ shows the filmmakers‘ specific artistic and aesthetic approach to the medium of analogue film and gives an outlook on the upcoming study program. (Concept: Philipp Fleischmann)
