Breathing Spaces – Join us for our upcoming screening and artist talk on September 4, 2026.

Six voices, six perspectives – six filmic essays on memory, trauma, and what remains untold.

FOTO ARSENAL WIEN presents a work-in-progress screening of the essay film series “Breathing Spaces” by filmmaker Mikal Maldoror, developed from the initiative “Erinnern in Zukunft” at Brunnenpassage Vienna. Across six episodes, international artists explore traces of past and present experiences. Moving between personal stories and collective narratives, the poetic-documentary works bring suppressed memories to the surface and open up diverse, transnational perspectives. The screening will be followed by an artist talk.

Some art stays on the screen. This art stays with you.

Lu Yang’s ongoing DOKU trilogy of video works (2018–2025) explores the dissolution of selfhood in relation to digital, biological, and spiritual systems. Across DOKU The Self (2022), DOKU The Flow (2024) and DOKU The Creator (2025), the Chinese artist employs video game aesthetics, motion-capture technology, and Buddhist philosophy to interrogate where identity resides when consciousness can be rendered, replicated, and endlessly reborn.

On view until September 6, 2026.

It’s a second chapter for something we weren’t ready to say goodbye.

The material for these bags was once used for the lightboxes on our building — lighting up our past exhibition “Daido Moriyama. A Retrospective“.

Cut, sewn, and crafted with real care by Wörkerei, a joint project of Caritas Wien and Volkshilfe Wien.

To everyone at Wörkerei — thank you. You didn’t just make bags. You gave our exhibition a way to keep going.

You’ll find these bags in our shop, in limited numbers — a rare opportunity to carry a piece of FOTO ARSENAL WIEN with you.
