Link in Bio.

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Gabriel Roland, Director
When Gabriel strolls into our office (Laura’s and mine) and leans against the bookshelf, one thing is certain: things are about to get exciting. And definitely funny.
How Gabriel manages to dash from one appointment to the next day after day, full of energy and enthusiasm—solving all kinds of problems, sometimes in just a matter of minutes—and still finds time to pick up his daughter from kindergarten, remains a mystery to me. Perhaps it’s his inner calm and analytical mindset that get him through the day.
Gabriel is also someone who’s always ready to roll up his sleeves—never too proud to get his hands dirty—and somehow keeps an eye on even the tiniest detail, for better or worse.
It’s precisely this broad curiosity and unique ability to look at situations from every possible angle—even ones you didn’t know existed—that make him the kind of director you’re proud and happy to shape a festival under.
On a personal level, Gabriel is probably the most pleasant boss one could wish for: if you have a problem or just need to vent for a minute, you walk into his office—and walk out with new motivation and possible solutions.
Thank you, Gabriel, for leading me and the team through stressful times with so much empathy, humor, and calm. I’m already looking forward to sprinting from one program item to the next with you during the festival :)

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Alexandra Brückner, Head of Production
There are people who do their job well, and then there are jobs that you can’t even imagine without the person who does them. For me Alexandra’s package of responsibilities in the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK team clearly falls into the second category. The way Alexandra has established and maintained appreciative, sustainable relationships with partners over the seven years we have been working together and, of course, her often invisible and yet so crucial work at the Festival Headquarters impresses me again and again. Alexandra’s calm self-confidence – always in the service of the cause! – bears witness to this position. Those who only know the working Alexandra, though, really have next to no idea at all.

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Laura Sophie Winkler, Head of Communication
Laura is an integral part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK since 2018. With a keen sense of design, tonality and impact, she communicates the festival’s identity to the outside world and combines strategic thinking with editorial finesse in her role as Head of Communication.
In addition to managing the FOKUS format and co-curating PASSIONSWEGE, she is also responsible for partnerships - tasks in which she works far beyond traditional communication work. As a reliable contact person, critical discussion partner and patient negotiator, she opens dialogs and creates connections.
In addition, she has been supporting creative actors from the fields of music, art and media in the development and implementation of their projects since 2012 - with a clear view, structured approach and genuine enthusiasm for collaborative processes.

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Julia Habarda, Projectmanager Stadtarbeit
We’ve actually known Julia for a while, she’s practically a Stadtarbeit alumni and took part in the format for the first time in 2019 together with a team.
All the better that she is now part of the festival again, but this time working on the other side: Since this year, Julia has been project manager of the Stadtarbeit format and an integral part of Team 2025!
Where others turn around, Julia throws herself in. Not only into new challenges at work, but also into the ice-cold Danube in winter (because she loves swimming) or new organization systems for her own apartment.
To wind down, she watches videos of renovations or conversions.
We really appreciate her fearless and funny nature and are delighted to have her on the team.

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Christoph Wimmer, Social Media
Christoph accompanied us with his camera for the first time in 2024 and was a huge support in our social media. We are therefore very happy that he is taking over social media again this year. Christoph, who builds cool new bikes from 90s mountain bike frames as , has an incredibly good feel for the atmosphere at an event and is extremely good at capturing it and making it tangible for outsiders. He is everywhere with his camera, but you hardly notice him, which allows him to create beautiful and authentic snapshots. His kind and calm character makes you feel right at home in his surroundings and in front of his camera lens.

THE TEAM ABOUT THE TEAM — Alma Fiala, Project Manager
Alma joined the VDW family two years ago. Since then, she is patient with us millennials, sometimes giving us a stop and keeping us up to date—whether it’s about up-and-coming design studios or the actual meaning of emojis 😜. She is an attentive listener, addressing concerns with humor and ease. Problems are rare, but solutions are always there—for us and all PLATFORM participants. Thanks to you, it’s never boring in the office, and you help out everywhere—as a matter of course.
Thank you, Alma, you’re remarkable!

FOKUS — EXTRAORDINARY OBJECTS
Design isn’t just about mass production! Many designers focus on unique, poetic objects that break free from the typical product cycle. To celebrate this creative approach, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK launched FOKUS – a group exhibition for outstanding design. Each year, a guest curator selects pieces from international and local submissions, brought together in a specially designed exhibition space.

Be part of this year’s call. Link in Bio.
