On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is taking a little trip.

In 2026, the festival leaves Vienna and moves through Europe — setting up temporary interventions, aperitivos, and unexpected encounters in off-locations together with changing guests. Less exhibition, more situation.

From Brussels to Milan, from Frankfurt to La Rioja, the tour activates the VDW network and brings its take on design — social, curious, and a bit stubborn — into new contexts.

On the road with:
14.3 — Collectible , Brussels with Bureau Fomo

21.4 — Fuorisalone, Milan with Laura Karasinski

30.5 — Křehký Mikulov , Mikulov with Eva Zangerle & Rainer Grilberger

5.6 — World Design Capital 2026 , Frankfurt with Tisch 7 .sieben

20.6 — Concéntrico , La Rioja with Liza Sočan & Gaja Pegan Nahtigal .0 &

A moving network of places, people, drinks, conversations — and a preview of what’s to come.

The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Anniversary tour is funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport

Open Call 2026 IKEA × VIENNA DESIGN WEEK:
“FRAKTA – More Than a Bag”

We all know it. Things pile up, move around, refuse to stay in place.
This open call invites you to rethink the iconic FRAKTA bag — not as a bag, but as a system for organising everyday life.

We are looking for ideas that transform, expand or reinterpret FRAKTA: as a structure, a tool, an installation or a new way of thinking about order.

Selected projects will be presented at VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2026.

1 winning project + 10 nominations
Prize money and production budget included.

Apply now. Deadline: June 7, 2026

MOVING MATERIALS | EPISODE 2: Alessa Wolfram
Six motion designers once again take over the video wall of the RADO Boutique on Kärntner Straße. LINK IN BIO
How does time take shape — and how can we feel it? In her work, Alessa Wolfram explores time as something both constant and cyclical, moving forward while always returning.
Through abstract scenes of form, movement and material, her animation reflects on repetition, rhythm and the sensation of being caught in a loop — between the possibility of starting over and the tension of standing still.
Working at the intersection of 3D art and storytelling, Wolfram creates visual narratives that make time tangible beyond measurement.

Happy Easter from the archives 🐓🥚

Presented as part of Urban Food & Design with the Vienna Business Agency during VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2019, Egg to Go imagined a city where humans and animals coexist on new terms — with chickens running their own takeaway.

Liberated from the farm, they move through urban space at eye level, producing and serving food themselves, powered by smart technologies and natural resources.

Each morning, visitors could pick up a breakfast egg — a small gesture that opened up bigger questions around food systems, coexistence, and our relationship with animals. A speculative take on care, consumption, and city life.

MOVING MATERIALS | EPISODE 1: Maximilian Prag

Six motion designers once again take over the video wall of the RADO Boutique on Kärntner Straße. LINK IN BIO

How do we experience virtual worlds — and where do they begin to shape our reality? In their work, Maximilian Prag explores the boundaries between technology and imagination, creating immersive environments that blur the line between the digital and the physical.

Working at the intersection of art and innovation, Prag develops new visual languages for contemporary virtual culture — spaces that are not only seen, but experienced.
