What’s an outsider Artist?
Wo stehen wir heute und wo geht die Reise hin?

Rückblick: Gespräch zwischen Florian Reese (Atelier 10 Wien) und Lena Freimüller (GALERIE3) – auf Einladung der Galerie de La Tour und Charlotte Hribernig, Klagenfurt.

Seit vielen Jahrzehnten schon beschäftigt sich Lena Freimüller mit Kunst, die oft immer noch als „Outsider Art“ oder „Art Brut“ gelabelt wird. Nicht nur im Rahmen von GALERIE3 Flux Projekten, wie dem Symposium „Künstler:innen mit Beeinträchtigung in der zeitgenössischen Kunstwelt“, oder dem Podcast Kunst Jetzt Jetzt Kunst, liegt ein Schwerpunkt auf sozial involvierte Kunst und Teilhabe.

Seit Beginn ihrer Tätigkeit als Kuratorin und Galeristin bemüht sich Lena Freimüller darum, Künstler:innen mit Beeinträchtigung gleichberechtigt ins zeitgenössischen Kunstgeschehen einzubeziehen. Die GALERIE3 arbeitete bereits mit einer Vielzahl von Trägerorganisationen und Atelierstrukturen im In- und Ausland zusammen und vertritt einzelne künstlerische Positionen wie Harald Stoffers (Hamburg/Berlin), die Lienzer Künstlerin Sylvia Manfreda oder neuerdings Juewen Zang (Frankfurt) gleichberechtigt im Programm, in Ausstellungen und auf Kunstmessen.

Wir freuen uns, den Dialog über eine gemeinsame Kunstszene voranzutreiben und danken allen Partner:innen, die am selben Strang ziehen!

MAAAHD & UNMAAAHD ist eine performative, interaktive, multimediale und spartenübergreifende Inszenierung, die verschiedene Arbeitsprozesse und Mähmethoden in der Landwirtschaft und den angrenzenden Lebensräumen, deren Effekte und Wandel thematisiert. Es verbindet landwirtschaftliche Praktiken mit zeitgenössischer Kunst und wissenschaftlich/philosophischen Diskursen über Arbeit, Technologie und deren Auswirkungen auf die Arbeitswelt sowie die Kulturlandschaft.

As if ‘travelling’ from one artwork to another, elements of the same plant appear in different works by the artist. This emphasises the narrative of movement and the search for one’s own place in a foreign land. The botanical motifs serve as symbols for the mixing and coexistence of different cultures and traditions, similar to the multicultural environment of magdas LOKAL itself. Each work invites viewers to reflect on their own sense of belonging and aims to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of the beauty of cultural diversity.

The technique of woodblock printing, which originated in ancient China and became popular in Europe in the Middle Ages, is utilised in this project. This technique had a great influence on the dissemination of information and the accessibility of art. It produces images that are rich in texture and detail, making it a distinctive art form.

GALERIE3 Flux im magdas LOKAL

Auf Basis eines früheren Projekts, in dem Frei vom Aussterben bedrohte Kärntner Pflanzen erforschte und darstellte, entstand die Idee zu dieser Ausstellung. Das tiefe Eintauchen in die heimische Flora löste bei der Künstlerin eine Faszination dafür aus, wie Pflanzen den Begriff Heimat symbolisieren können, insbesondere wenn man ihre Herkunft und Migration betrachtet.

In Home from Afar erweitert Frei dieses Thema, indem sie Pflanzen porträtiert, die wir vielleicht aus unserer eigenen Umgebung kennen, welche aber eigentlich aus fernen Ländern stammen.

Alle gezeigten Arbeiten stehen über die GALERIE3 zum Verkauf. Fragen Sie gerne vor Ort nach der Preisliste (QR-Code) oder kommen Sie im Anschluss in unserer Galerie vorbei.

Opening on the ORF Long Night of Museums

The artist will be present!
A welcome talk with Hubert Lobnig and Lena Freimüller will take place at the opening.

Building on the idea of reopening this once so lively building to the general public, OKZT has initiated a new art venue for Carinthia already two years ago - OK.kunZT: since then, various artists have been performing in the entrance area of the building every six months, and a variety of artistic projects have already left their mark - some of the artistic interventions have even become a permanent part of the building.

With the site-specific projection installation Place in Time by Hubert Lobnig, the artistic focus is now on the location itself, its architecture, topography, history and the square in front of it, where the constant flow of traffic prevents people from lingering. There was once a monument, a fountain and a small petrol station here… A place that has inscribed itself in the memory of the people of Klagenfurt in different ways is brought back to life here artistically thanks to the installational setting for the projection of a film, which was developed specifically for this project.

Specially conceived for the warm and inviting atmosphere of magdas LOKAL, the exhibition Home from Afar deals with the themes of home, roots and integration. Katya Frei, an artist with an international background, draws inspiration from her diverse background and the ethos of magdas LOKAL, where different cultures merge into a dynamic community, by portraying plants that we may recognise from our own surroundings, but which actually come from distant lands.

Rojo & Kreß
>Southbound<

Rojo & Kreß create abstract sculptures, representations of superfruits, which, with their peculiar appearance, may be intended to reveal some absurdities. The fruits that Rojo & Kreß create under the title „Superfruits“ - made of cylinders and other regular shapes, with smooth surfaces such as rubber or metal - are a testimony to the standardization measures that, through the techniques of marketing to promote artificial needs, have replaced our diet with pharmacology: Fruits as a pill to optimize and maximize the human body, as a catalyst for new skills and abilities that are no longer lived and experienced, but administered.

Does the best fruit always come from the south? Even if there is criticism in the artistic approach to this question, there seems to be a small grain of truth in the affirmation - after all, variations of these „superfruits“ have already been exhibited in Chile and have now conquered the south of Austria.

Take your last chance heading south and take a look at the tasty superfruit-sculptures at OKZT during regular business hours.
