“Collage of 1/2 of 2026”

Taking time to look back at the work and feeling so grateful for how much “M.other body” - I said a mouthful there - continues to give.

So thrilled for the commissions, collaborations, conversations and all the unexpected directions it has opened up.

I’m not always very good at pausing to reflect, as I tend to be constantly looking towards the next project. But taking a moment to acknowledge what has been, while feeling excited about what’s to come is necessary. It’s raining as I am typing and it’s helping me to worry less about the climate for a moment.

„Lioness Gurgling Fountain“

one of my most joyful and rewarding commissioned works this year. Created in ceramics, the sculpture features a lioness’s head that functions as a fountain, creating a gentle gurgling flow of water. It brings together playfulness, the challenge of pushing my own creative boundaries, and a deep love of water.
The project grew from a warm and trusting collaboration. We kept meeting, exchanging ideas, and allowing the design to evolve freely.

The collectors gave me complete creative freedom, and that trust made the entire process especially enjoyable.
The fountain was created as a birthday present and the lioness’s large ears were inspired by the grandfather of the family, adding a deeply personal connection to the piece. The work also reflects a shared love of the sea and the refreshing experience of cooling down in Vienna during the summer months - something that feels more important than ever.
The couple is passionate about Grander Water, making it especially meaningful that Grander Water flows through the fountain itself. The flowing water is not only an essential part of the sculpture’s function but also expresses the values and way of life they cherish.

This project would not have been possible without the generous support, expertise, and creative input of Cristina Fiorenza, Gordon Selbach, and Kolesa Stahlbau. •
Their expertise helped transform the vision into a lasting work that celebrates water, imagination, and the beauty of shared trust throughout the creative process.

Back in May, I released my book M.other Body - self-published, crowdfunded, and born from years of thinking about motherhood and what it means to be an artist. I remember feeling completely exhausted and deeply happy at the same time.

Now there’s a different kind of joy: leaving the book in places where it can find its audience as recently Offprint LUMA Arles
Watching it make its own way into people’s hands feels like the next chapter of the journey.

Thank you for capturing this project so beautifully Studio Griesbacher-Tafner

Today 2 months ago today, M.other Body found its way into the world.

It’s a strange and beautiful feeling to know that something so personal now belongs to so many of you. Every message, every conversation, every photo of the book, and every person who has told me they felt seen, understood, or a little less alone while reading it has stayed with me.

I wrote these poems from a place of honesty, hoping it might reach the people who needed it most. Seeing it do exactly that is something I’ll never take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who has welcomed M.other Body into your space for a reading, your conversations, your lives. Thank you for reading, for sharing it with others, and for reminding me of the beauty of collaborative work.

Here’s to two months of M.other Body - and to everyone who has become part of its journey.

M.other Body emerged from a deeply personal and vulnerable process. Through her own artistic practice, Anna Riess explores what it means to exist as both an artist and a mother. In close collaboration with photographer Elodie Grethen, these reflections unfold in dialogue, weaving together images and words into a work about the body, identity, transformation, and intimacy.

Sharing such personal texts and photographs takes courage - and it is only possible through trust, care, and the support of others.
