We cordially invite you to the closing reception of the exhibition „Containment & Desire in the Leaking Body“, which is part of this year’s CURATED BY gallery festival. Artist Paul Prothesis, curator Andrea Kopranovic, and gallerist Markus Peichl discuss question surrounding the exhibition and emerging from it.

What does CARE mean from a curatorial perspective, and how can it be exhibited within the institutional art world? What does it mean to showcase and address it in a gallery setting? How can the works in the exhibition be described and situated against the backdrop of informal and professional care? Together, artist Paul Prothesis, the exhibition’s curator, Andrea Kopranovic, and gallery owner Markus Peichl will explore these and other questions.

At the center of Paul Prothesis’ artistic exploration are bodily constructions and overwritings that are transferred from the injuries of the cared-for body to the social body of the caregiver. Part of these transformational processes are the shifts in societal notions and implications of masculinity—brought about by care work, in which both the caregiver and the patient are marked as q***r.

CAROLA DERTNIG’s intervention “Symphony in Nylon – All in All. Lifelong Red Tights” at Mahler Forum, Klagenfurt – still on view till 31 October, 2026

For the artist Carola Dertnig, tights are far more than mere material: they are a trail, a second skin, a spatial line and a vessel for memory. Appearing in Dertnig’s slapstick series “True Stories” as early as 2003, they were depicted as a trail left behind in public space – comical, precarious and revealing all at once. The order of everyday life begins to slip. In “All in All. Life Long Red Tights”, tights return as stretchy nylon: elastic, close-fitting, soft yet resistant, detached from the body and yet shaped by it.

A central aspect of the work is the significance of tights in the historical context of the First and Second World War. Dertnig counters this history of violence and hierarchical segregation with a deliberate shift in material. Her nylon stockings break with the old colour codes and demand visibility and resistance. The stretchy, vulnerable materiality makes improvisation tangible as a ‘precarious practice’ – as a reaction to draughts, touch, proximity and chance. Thus, the tights become a trace of a different order, imprinted on the space and the memory, making resistance physically palpable.

Feminist perspectives and an explicit interest in the politicization of gender are some of the central aspects of Dertnig’s work. As an performance artist, she often appears in everyday settings, deliberately acting as a disruptive body to draw attention to issues such as identity, the self and her position in society.

On view until October 26, 2026 at Kunsthalle Wien: The exhibition LEBT UND ARBEITET IN WIEN with contributions by our artists ASHLEY HANS SCHEIRL and HUDA TAKRITI

ASHLEY HANS SCHEIRL (born 1956 in Salzburg, Austria) is known for a diverse body of work that has established her as a pioneer in q***r-feminist and transgender counterculture. Her artistic practice has evolved from film in the 1970s to a distinctive painterly approach from the mid-1990s onwards.

In the exhibition LEBT UND ARBEITET IN WIEN Scheirl is represented with a new series consisting of twenty paintings, installed on a wall alongside enlarged versions of two of these works in the form of wallpaper. Using a muted colour palette, the artist paints directly with her fingers on cardboard to mimic the tactile motion of interacting with digital touchscreens.

HUDA TAKRITI (born 1990 in Damascus, Syria) creates videos and installations that explore how histories are constructed, remembered, and contested. She questions the boundaries between official historiography and marginalised stories, as well as their images and narratives, emphasising the importance of archives as a counterpoint to state narratives – particularly those of colonising states.

In her video ON ANOTHER NOTE (2024), that is a central element of the exhibition, she creates an intimate portrait of her grandmother, Hikmat al-Habbal, using photographs, textiles and spoken words. For this work, she has been honoured with the prestigious Kardinal-König Art Prize 2025.

The exhibition LEBT UND ARBEITET IN WIEN is curated by Michelle Cotton, Director of Kunsthalle Wien, Daniel Baumann, former Director of Kunsthalle Zürich, and Monika Georgieva.

Now on view at Crone Berlin: Clemens Krauss’ solo exhibition SEDIMENTS.

In his recent series Sediments, Clemens Krauss turns his attention for the first time to the world of objects, the tangible and physical presence. Replacing the human figure, Krauss now presents buildings, surfaces, and everyday objects as vessels of temporality, history, and memory. In doing so, he shifts the focus from interpersonal relationships to the corporeality of things, while simultaneously articulating a distance from an anthropocentric perspective.

The artist’s characteristic thick, impasto application of paint remains central to the work. Layer by layer, Krauss deposits oil paint onto the canvas, creating relief-like surfaces that evoke geological sediments. Like natural processes of accumulation, time, movement, and material condense into complex, stratified structures.

It was a blast: We are honoured to have been part of the first ASTORIA ARTSHOW in Vienna with a solo presentation by CAROLA DERTNIG!

We would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response and the large number of visitors to the new artshow in Europe’s oldest multi-storey car park!

Our presentation, featuring selected works by CAROLA DERTNIG, explored movement and the relations between object, space and the human body through two sculptures from the *Feldenkreis* series (2024), whilst also pointedly questioning traditional gender roles through the video work * … a car ...* (2010).

Her performance video from the *True Stories* series transforms driving into a humorous spectacle of everyday life. Against the backdrop of a multi-storey car park – such as the Astoria Garage – Dertnig plays with the cliché of women as poor drivers and stages mishaps, accidents and absurd situations.

Two more days: ROSEMARIE TROCKEL at ASTORIA ARTSHOW in Vienna.

We are delighted to be taking part in the first edition of the ASTORIA ARTSHOW. This new format, which combines art fair and exhibition, is taking place at the historic Astoria Garage in the heart of Vienna and brings together 80 Austrian and international galleries.

Crone Wien is presenting a selection of works by the legendary conceptual artist Rosemarie Trockel. She is one of Germany’s most influential artists and is internationally renowned for her complex and controversial œuvre.

Her work has been exhibited at the New Museum in New York, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, the Serpentine Gallery in London, the MMK in Frankfurt and is in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London and the Kunstmuseum Basel, to name but a few.

“The body I work with is male and wounded. It is amputated and unstable. It hurts, leaks, scabs, and contaminates its surroundings. It suffers repression because of its fluidity. It remains in need of expression”.

Prothesis‘ exhibtion is part of the Viennese gallery festival CURATED BY, which is taking place this year under the theme LOVE. It is an exploration of the place, time and experience of taboos, shedding light on supposedly dirty and abject aspects from the perspective of a q***r, care-giving artist known as Paul Prothesis. In this first exhibition, the artist explores forms of visibility and intimacy that are both disabled and disabling, emotional and physical leaks, phantom limbs and wound dressings, as well as questions of masculinity, alongside the desire to remain permeable whilst in close relationship with illness.

Paul Prothesis lives and works in Vienna and in southern Burgenland. He has been caring for his father since 1985 following a work-related accident. Since 2014, he has been engaged in ongoing artistic work based on this experience. From 2021 to 2025, Prothesis studied Contextual Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts with Ashley Hans Scheirl as well as Alice Kreischer & Andreas Siekmann.

At PARALLEL VIENNA 2026, we show a solo presentation by SOPHIE-LUISE PASSOW that explores the interplay between psychological processes and biological phenomena.

Sophie-Luise Passow’s artistic practice is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating large-scale abstract paintings, drawing, printmaking, textile art, and installations. This approach is particularly evident in her latest series of works on so-called *stress granules*. Passow explores their dual nature as a temporary protective mechanism that hardens under sustained stress. She translates this tension into multi-layered works, often created on the floor and involving the full use of her body. Through the direct application of pigment and delicate pastels on linen, she creates repetitive motifs that make transformation and vulnerability visible.
