I’d like to share a few glimpses from when I had the pleasure of working with the very talented Felicitas Wrede and Armand Rabot a few months ago. My approach blends modern teaching and bodywork methods with old-school ideals to help singers unlock their true potential.

Teaching is one of my greatest passions—helping singers find freedom in their voice and watching their artistry unfold is always inspiring.

What is Open Body Music?
Open Body Music is a method developed by Valentin Lundin, designed to improve the
performance of singers and instrumentalists. By drawing attention to, and balancing
tension, stress and bad movement patterns, the technique, expression and performance
of the musician can be optimized.

How?
Every musician is unique, meaning each session can be quite different, depending on
the needs of the individual. However, it will usually start with an analysis of how the
musician is using his or her body and instrument. Once the musician’s unique difficulties
and inefficiencies are determined, we will begin a series of exercises and activities.
Movement exercises, body awareness training, massage and establishing a truly
natural posture are some of the most common methods used.

Benefits and goals
- A good posture that allows for several hours of playing music or singing without feeling
tired or sore
- A free and healthy respiration
- An Awareness of how to use the body to achieve your full potential as a musician
- The possibility to make music and express yourself fully in an effortless and energetic
way

Open Body Music is a growing concept and Valentin is currently working with soloists from some of Europe’s biggest opera houses. Such as Staatsoper Wien, Staatsoper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin and English National Opera London.
