A beautiful walk in the mountains above Gratteri. At the stone shepherd's cottage, we found a fallow deer completely entangled in a barbed wire fence. She was bleeding and antlers so tightly locked into the wires that it seemed hopeless. After nearly two hours of skilled work by a few members of our party, we managed to free her. The last photo was taken just before she jumped up and leapt off, wounded but free. ❤️

New Year’s Day siesta hour in the town of Montemaggiore-Belsito, where my Nana’s father was born. In the last photo you can see the mountain peaks where my Sicily home is located. I love that this town is visible from my terrace on the distant horizon on a clear day.
