Waves Vienna - Music Festival & Conference Waves Festival is the city’s first club- and showcase festival.

In autumn Vienna’s most significant clubs, unique off-locations, and the public space will merge into the site of the Waves Vienna Festival. FESTIVAL
Waves Festival’s motto is „East meets West“; numerous international alternative, electronic, rock, and club acts will be performing around Vienna’s 17th district. Additionally, local artists and sophisticated musicians from Eastern Europe form an essential part of the festival’s programme. Every year Waves Festival will welcome two countries, one from the eastern and one frome the western part of Europe. True to the motto “East Meets West”, there will be a focus on acts from these countries in the live programme. The Waves Music Conference will furthermore devote a part of its programme to the respective music markets and scenes of these countries. CONFERENCE
The Waves Festival Music Conference constitutes a part of the festival and offers the possibility to attend lectures and panels and participate in workshops. The subject-specific programme will deal with the topic „East meets West“, which will serve as the basis and inspiration for many years of pan-European cooperation. FACTS & FIGURES

Waves Festival is organised by Verein Wien macht Kultur and Comrades GmbH. In the various areas Comrades works collaboratively with different companies and institutions. The conference is co-organised with MICA (Music Information Center Austria).

Go beyond the stage, and let us build the future of live music, together!

Applications are now open for Live Incubator 2027, and this time, we’re inviting solo artists to join.

Are you a solo artist who wants to change how the music industry works, and not just play in it? Join a small cross-border team of artists, emerging professionals and the directors of Trondheim Calling, SPOT Festival and Waves Vienna 7.-9.10.2027.

Together you’ll pick a real challenge facing the live music scene, build a project to tackle it, and pitch it to the industry.

Dates: January – November 2027

Open to solo artists aged 18–30 based in Denmark, Norway or Austria. You don’t need a finished idea, just the drive to create one. Live Incubator is open to everyone, and we warmly encourage artists who are underrepresented in the music industry to apply.

🌊 Three days of talking about music. Here’s what stuck.

1,361 participants from 32 countries, +60 conference and accompanying events, the United Kingdom as Guest of Honour and sync as our focus. From music in film, TV and games to the future of UK–EU cultural exchange, a lot of conversations that are hopefully still going.

Thank you to every speaker, moderator, partner and everyone who joined us at the Albert Hall and beyond.

🌊 Saturday didn’t want to end either.

Free afternoon shows, one last night along the Gürtel and an Afterparty at Lucia that went until 4 am.
The biggest thank you goes to you. Everyone who came early, stayed late, found a new favourite act or just walked in by chance.
Without you, Waves Vienna simply wouldn’t work.

🌊 Thank you for Waves Vienna 2026. And save the date: we're back from October 7–9, 2027.

Our 16th edition welcomed 14,411 visitors, with 109 concerts by 104 acts from 27 countries across ten stages along the Gürtel. The Waves Vienna Conference brought together 1,361 participants from 32 countries for 55 conference and accompanying events.

Thank you to all our partners and sponsors, and to every artist, speaker, delegate, visitor, venue and team member who made these three days possible. And to everyone who came early, stayed late or just walked in by chance: without you, none of this works.

🌊 Awards night at the Albert Hall. Four awards, a lot of applause.

The Gap Nachwuchspreis goes to Nico Rottenbücher.

The Austrovinyl Best Merch Award was handed out three times this year: to Tamara Flores, Hana Fatur and Janka.

The Music Exporters Preis goes to Franz Hergovich. Thank you, Franz, for everything you’ve done for the Austrian music scene. A lot of what happens here wouldn’t without you.

And the XA – Export Award 2026 goes to Tamara Flores, who takes home two awards in one night. 🏆

Congratulations to all winners, and thank you to everyone who made this evening happen.

🌊 The Waves Vienna Media Lab, signing off.

This year, a group of young creatives joined us to capture the festival their own way: as part of the official photo team, or with their own formats in the Creative Lab. Between workshops on how to cover a festival and how to capture live music, they were out there every night, camera in hand.

Thank you to everyone who took part. A lot of what you’ve seen on our channels this week came from you.

🌊 And the XA – Export Award 2026 goes to… 🏆

An international jury of festival promoters, label managers, bookers and journalists watched all six nominees at Waves Vienna, and Tamara Flores delivered the most outstanding performance.

She receives €4,500 from SKE/AUME, career support from , & Waves Vienna, plus €5,000 in tour support from BMWKMS. Next stop: beyond Austria.
