| Barbara Horvath wrote in her accompanying exhibition text:
“(…) In their pictorial worlds, observations of the everyday are intertwine with imaginative, dreamlike elements. As you walk, it seems, fixed boundaries dissolve: reality and fiction begin to flow into each other. Birds, plants, animals, human figures and fragments of landscapes appear as memories or projections. They are condensations of perception, snapshots of a moving consciousness. Shoes that mark paths through cities, animals that appear as companions or opposites, plants and mushrooms that spread out and permeate spaces, all this forms an open dynamic structure. (…)”

writes in her text accompanying the show:
“With Thomas Bernhard, walking is not just locomotion, but a way of thinking. Step by step, an inner monologue unfolds, which ignites with the movement, increases, falters and starts again. For him, walking means exposing himself to the world and moving away from it at the same time. It is a rhythmic process between control and loss of control. A similar distinction is made by Francis Alÿs: “A journey implies a destination, so many miles to be consumed, while a walk is its own measure, complete at every point along the way.”

The exhibition ‘While Walking’ by Bettina Willnauer in the Galerie Sophia Vonier in Salzburg connects to this thinking figure and translates it into textile picture spaces. Their hand-tufted wall work does not arise from a fixed pictorial concept, but develops procedurally. Starting point are drawings or loose sketches, which are transformed in the course of the work. | wrote:
„ “Poem” is the title of another significant series of works whose source material is 25 years old. Yellow squares created during her student years form an existing body of work that is now
being overwritten. The artist collages private interiors of public figures from digital archives or
other found footage of natural events, condensing them
into a striking whole. In doing so, she addresses moments that are preserved in their status yet embodied as a process—as printmaking, as layering, and as a blend of history and the present. The motifs of demolition, disruption, and naturally occurring disruptive factors do not address the possibility of natural disasters, but rather the artistic treatment of memory and the process of its reproduction.“

‘s second solo show at the gallery is on view until May 9, 2026.

writes in his accompanying text:
„Three peculiar objects (Obscure objects)—once forgotten and now stranded once more— serve as the opening and anchor of an exhibition that views the personal perspective as both a principle and a method. As a passionate collector and attentive finder, Elisabeth Schmirl perceives objects as found pieces situated in metaphorical waiting rooms. Through the artistic transformation of these objects, which are now reflected within the exhibition space, the artist exposes visitors to kaleidoscopic visual conditions and viewing techniques. Elisabeth Schmirl’s work moves
between object art, photography, and printmaking without seeking to make a distinction between these media the focus of the work. What remains is not the question of the integrity of artistic media, but a sensually interwoven relationship between viewer and image, one that literally generates manifold reflections.“
