“A song to be”

Once upon a time
A rose without a dime
Traveled the road
His song untold.

Poorer than dirt,
Holes in his shirt,
Whiteness no more,
His feet all sore.

Singing for food
And up to no good,
Days just go by
As clouds in the sky.

Many were mad,
Some perhaps sad
By his carefree life
Without even a wife

“This cannot be.
This we can’t see”.
Voices complained
And the rose retained.

“Should you wish free
As a bird to be “-
Said the fancy lily,
His coat all frilly,

“Give up your ways,
Your carefree days.
Find a job fast.
Our patience won’t last.”

Backs turned as one,
Showing they were done
With his jokes,
And tricks and pots.

Only one stood still
Thoughts running her mill,
Words not adding up
For the freedom trap.

“You can’t chain the free”
Said the wild poppy,
Shy, but with her wit
Strong, without a wilt.

“Freedom can’t be reached
When it’s only preached.
You can’t put a chain
Claiming it’s a gain.”

And just like so
She’s let him go.
His song was untold
She couldn’t grab hold.

And poorer he went
Without a dime spent,
No shoes on his feet,
No regret to meet.

A blushing poppy watched,
Remembering the touch
Of lips on her cheek
Grateful kiss he sneaked.

Their song in the works
As the tune unfolds,
Till next time they meet
And future fate greet.

“Why do you shy away?” -wondered the cornflower looking at her tiny friend. The daisy had seemed restless, avoiding to gaze upon the newly arrived poppies, ever since they’ve opened their fluttering crowns in the morning.
“I cannot” - she finally admitted. “They look like open wounds. So vulnerable. Their petals so frail. I don’t know how to deal with flowers like that. I’m afraid to say the wrong thing. I don’t know if I should bother them to begin with. I also feel more vulnerable myself with them and it’s making me all funny inside...”
“I know what you mean. Not everything in life feels comfortable or comes easy. But you don’t need to overthink things. Poppies are just flowers like you and I. You don’t need to act differently just because they wear their wounds on the outside. Just be there. Be open like you would usually be. If there will be friendship, if there will be value, it will find its way to you and tie you together. And if not, there will still be respect and support. Looking away will gift you none of that, so turn your head sweet daisy and smile at the flower next to you. You never know what the day might bring”

I used to be a rose, so shiny and bright

So beautifully young, a pleasure for sight.

But time passed, the roots grew stronger

And with this change, was I a rose no longer.

Instead stood a sunflower, mature and kind

Of deeper confidence and of ripper mind.

However times still roll and changes abound.

Lastly, the sunflower was no longer found.

Another flower grew, its pedals so red

Like pained hearts and tears shed.

So frail stood the poppy fluttering in wind

Atoms of foggy thoughts struggling to bind.

Say what you will but on a closer look

Despite it all, the poppy still bore fruit.

We can be any flower, luxurious or rare.

We can have beauty or usefulness we share.

In many forms we live but each and every one

It’s precious to all and blessed under the sun.

“Let me take away your tears” -sang the wind with gentle heart. “Give them all to me to carry to the spring across the world, where no hurtful words are heard and no scowlful looks are seen. Put your anger inside them. Your frustration. All your pain. Tiny drops to free your soul carrying thoughts that don’t belong in the purest of the hearts. Let me take them far away, let me sooth you and caress. No darkness should cloud your face, no ignorance should bring you down. Love yourself and trust your fate, better days will soon to come.”

When you close your eyes at night
And you cuddle with delight
Do you feel the magic light
Of the dragon and his knight?

If you caught them in your sight
As they descend from their height
You can offer them a bite
To replenish after flight.

If they’re happy they just might
Spread their magic so hold tight
If the rooms gets really bright
You are up for quite a night.

Will you travel on a kite,
Or laugh in a pillow fight?
Everything just seems so right.
Perhaps build a camping site?

You could dance until midnight
Or spin like a satellite
And work out an appetite
As you run under starlight.

So much fun, the night is white
As you feel it with delight.
But now it’s time to say good night
To the dragon and his knight

Your eyes closing only slight
And your breath slows down its might
So take teddy on your right,
And dream big, my precious light. . .

This is my second entry for manka_kasha and sheva_ceramics ‘s . I know I promised to post it soon and I didn’t want to let it hanging until I am done with the sculpture exhibition so this is my surprise for you. Also with this post we are now aligned with Instagram. This means updates will be as I manage to create new illustrations, ideally once a week. See you next week and thanks for sticking around. ❤️

“If you’d be a flower what flower would you be?
The enchanting rose or perhaps the sweet poppy?”
Would you rise your head to beloved sun
or would hide away where they can see you none?
If you’d be a flowe....“. “Hey, wait a moment, -small horse said halting in his cheerful song, what kind of flower is that?” .
Big horse lifted his head slowly from the scented grass to see what new wondrous thing his buddy had come across this time. But the tiny fellow was looking straight at him with a mischievous look, holding a flower wreath in his mouth.
“What, what do you... what are you looking at...? -big horse asked confused half afraid to find out the answer.
But the horsie was already all over him setting the wrath on his head and beaming with pride. “You are now the most the precious flower in this meadow”- he laughed galloping away in full bliss. Catch me if you can sweet pea.”

Illustration for an art challenge

Sometimes even the bravest of knights must lay down their helmet and cuddle gently into delightful sleep’s embrace. Nighty night to all of you out there, knights, teddies or gigantic galactic beings made of star dust and endless dreams. ( I identify as the later 😁, just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️😉).

This illustration was done for manka_kasha and sheva_ceramics ‘s . Manka_kasha has been one of the first artists that I have followed on Instagram, even before I even had an illustration account myself. Her works have been a constant light in my life ever since, never failing to amaze me with their beauty. Always an inspiration, always bringing a smile on my face and changing a crappy day into a better one. I am glad I’ve got the opportunity to take a step into her beautiful world through this illustration. I couldn’t have done it any other way than by combining the amazing character sheva_ceramics created, with the iconic galaxies of manka_kasha. There is a message in there for the ever working Manka as well. I wonder if she will get it. 😴

There was once a koi fish living in a pond, down by the golden forest with lilies all around. A koi fish like all other, it might seem at first sight, of such beautiful color and eyes as dark as night. But why are the willows caressing him gently, with wavy arms and tears a plenty? This fish had a dream to stand on the land, a flower to be, away from the pond. No fins but petals adorning his body, no watery coldness but delightfully sunny. He was as determined as a fish can be, to set out next morning, his dream to make free.

“Don’t do it” - cried his sisters.

“Don’t do it” - cried the wind.

“Don’t do it” - wept the water clouded with tears for the fish’s foolery.

Their cautionary tales and desperate pleas, their love and their wish pressed heavily all night, on the little fish. But no thought he gave them and with the first light, he set out to seek the life he thought right. The road was full of hardship, each day more bleak and dark. Will he pay dearly for this foolishness of heart? Some like to think that, for such a fool he was, not to heed the words of caution and leave with just a splat.
But rumors go that deep inside a forest like no other, in time the most amazing flowers bloomed, their sight truly a wonder. Cause what is fool and what is wise in following your heart? To let the fears of others stop you in your path? Or live your life and not a dream, impossible as this may seem? What does ring true, for all of us may never be the same but “Are you the fool or are you the wise?”- the question will remain. When fears are high but dreams abound will you stay safely in your pond?

“What gave you this color?” -asked tiny horse, eyes so big the entire flower could see herself in them. “Was it the sky that lend you the blue? Was it the blackberries painting purple on you? Was it the sun that adorned you with yellow or perhaps the bees with their golden fuzz? Was it my heart that dreamed you awake, miracle born from sparks of my mind? Are you a dream? Are you a sight? Are you here to bring the world delight?”
The flower stood silent caressed by the wind and small horse laid next to her, his eyes purple bright. He looked at her petals swinging slowly against the sky and breathed in her perfume of grapes and summer warmth. No answers were needed ‘cause he knew in his heart wonders are to be felt and not taken apart.

I once gave you a flower, the flower of knowledge, the flower of life. You slowly uncovered its wonders and I watched it bloom in your heart. Your tiny hands caressed it with care, bright eyes glimmering with light. How sweet to see it grow there, filling your soul with delight.

I might have been influenced in my words and illustration by my beautiful little one and the delight he takes in everything new he uncovers under my care 😂. I hope you won’t hold it against me with such a cute model. But just like I plant love and knowledge in his soul each day, I hope I plant a tiny, tiny seed of beauty in your hearts as well with my illustrations and stories. If they brighten your day even for a second my soul is complete. So this flower of wonders is dedicated to you all, may it bloom and help you heal.

For those lost to the ashes of the wind.

For those who mourn the withering spring

scarring the earth with feverish tears
gasping for air,
inconsolable fears.

For those that we’ll never again hold

their stories and lives forever untold.

For those afraid, alone at night.

For those who long but in their heart

there is no solace only such
unsoothing words
deprived of touch.

For those who weep and those who shout, for those who crumble and those who fight.

May you all find peace.

May you all find light.

Forever loved. Forever mourned. Forever in our heart.
