The sculpture "Love and Envy", is a monumental Carrara marble sculpture and a key work of Gustav Gurschner’s early Viennese Modernism. Created shortly after his return from Paris, the sculpture reflects his engagement with contemporary European sculpture and was exhibited at the inaugural Hagenbund exhibition in Vienna in 1900.

The Gustav Gurschner Digital Archive brings together historical materials relating to the work, including photographs documenting the sculpture and contemporary articles. These sources are linked to the individual work, making the historical documentation accessible alongside the object.

Exploring the Gustav Gurschner Digital Archive.

Gustav Gurschner’s work is documented through a wide range of historical sources, which is brought together in the digital archive.

Using the "Nautilus Lamp" as an example, we show how to search for an object and explore its corresponding archival materials, from historical photographs and articles to catalog entries.

Objects executed by the K.K. Kunst-Erzgiesserei can also be traced through digitized sales catalogs, including the English edition “Wiener Kunsterzgiesserei A. G. – Real Bronzes” and individual pages from the German K.K. Kunst-Erzgiesserei catalog.
