Herzliche Einladung zur Buchpräsentation am Samstag, 16. Mai um 18:30 im Textilen Zentrum Haslach:
Textile Praktiken: Vierzig Künstlerinnen und Gestalterinnen aus Europa - mit Autorin Stephanie Kahnau
Stephanie Karnau ist eine in München ansässige Textildesignerin, die mit Ihrem neuen Buch „Textile Practices“ das Textile als integraler Bestandteil unseres täglichen Lebens und weibliches Gestaltungsmetier unter die Lupe nimmt. Sie präsentiert in ihrem Bildband 40 Textil-Gestalterinnen des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts und deren herausragenden und individuellen Umgang mit dem Medium. Die vorgestellten Positionen machen den Begriff, die Technik und die Funktion des Textils von verschiedenen Ebenen aus zugänglich.
Neben den Bild- und Textbeiträgen zu den Künstlerinnen gibt es auch theoretische Esseys zum Wesen des Textilen, u.a. verfasst von Christina Leitner vom Textilen Zentrum Haslach.
Zwei Künstlerinnen, die im Buch portraitiert sind, werden ebenfalls anwesend sein: Laura Wernert und Elfi Baumgartner.

Textile Practices: Forty Women Artists and Designers from Europe - with author Stephanie Kahnau
Stephanie Kahnau is a Munich-based textile designer whose new book, „Textile Practices,“ examines textiles as an integral part of our daily lives and a distinctly female creative field. In her illustrated book, she presents 40 women textile designers from the 20th and 21st centuries and their outstanding and individual approaches to the medium. The featured works make the concept, technique, and function of textiles accessible from various perspectives.
In addition to the images and texts about the artists, there will also be theoretical essays on the nature of textiles, including one by Christina Leitner from the Haslach Textile Center.
Two of the artists portrayed in the book will also be present: Laura Wernert and Elfi Baumgartner.

Vergangenes Wochenende fanden bei uns wieder vielfältige Textil-Workshops statt. Es wurde in die Welt der Naturfarben eingetaucht, mit experimentellen Ansätzen im Textildesign gearbeitet, Sommerhüte modelliert und textile Kleinwerkzeuge erkundet.
Das schöne Wetter ließ die Vorfreude auf unser Sommerprogramm wachsen: In 28 verschiedenen Workshops kann eine ganze Woche lang in unterschiedlichste textile Techniken eingetaucht werden. Viele Kurse stehen dabei unter dem Motto unseres aktuellen EU-Interreg Projekts Symcraft „Textilabfall neu denken“ und laden dazu ein, Vorhandenes zu flicken, umzugestalten oder kreativ neu zu nutzen.

Last weekend, a variety of textile workshops took place at the Centre. Participants explored the world of natural dyes, experimented with approaches to textile design, shaped summer hats, and discovered small textile tools.

The beautiful weather has us looking ahead to our summer program: 28 different workshops offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in a wide range of textile techniques over the course of a full week. Many of the courses are centered around the theme of our current EU-Interreg project Symcraft “rethinking textile waste,” inviting participants to mend, transform, or creatively reuse existing materials.

Der fliegende Teppich – Kinderkurs

Kurs mit Andrea Pernegr im Textilen Zentrum Haslach, 🗓️ 27. - 31. Juli 2026

Was brauchen wir für eine Reise ins Stoff- und Papierland? Wir probieren und experimentieren mit verschiedensten Materialien und Sachen. Unsere Hände zeichnen, kleben, schneiden, reißen, knüllen, drucken, nähen, formen, biegen, malen was und führen uns immer weiter. Am Ende unserer Reise werden wir eine kleine Ausstellung vorbereiten.
Gefragt sind neugierige Kinder, die auch gerne ihre eigenen Lieblingsmaterialien, ihren Werkkoffer oder das Federpennal auf die Reise mitbringen können!

The Flying Carpet – Children's Course

What do we need for a trip to the land of fabric and paper? We try out and experiment with a wide variety of materials and things. Our hands will draw, glue, cut, tear, crumple, print, sew, mould, bend, paint and take us further and further. At the end of our journey, we will prepare a small exhibition.
We are looking for curious children who are also welcome to bring their own favourite materials, their work kit or their pencil case on the trip!

Das Maschinenstricken ermöglicht die schnelle, direkte Umsetzung eigener Inspirationen und öffnet viele Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten! Dieser Kurs richtet sich an Anfänger:innen im Umgang mit der Strickmaschine und alle, die eine neue Textiltechnik ausprobieren möchten.
Wir befassen uns mit der Handhabung der Maschine, begreifen das Funktionsprinzip und loten die diversen Musterungsmöglichkeiten aus. Neben dem technischen Know-How werden auch individuelle Ideen besprochen und alle sind aufgefordert, selbst verschiedene Muster, Effekte, Farbstellungen und Garne spielerisch auszuprobieren.

Understanding the knitting machine - loop formation

Machine knitting allows you to quickly and directly realise your own inspirations and opens up many design possibilities! This course is aimed at beginners in the use of knitting machines and anyone who would like to try out a new textile technique.
We look at the handling of the machine, understand the functional principle and explore the various pattern possibilities. In addition to the technical know-how, individual ideas are also discussed and everyone is encouraged to playfully try out different patterns, effects, colours and yarns themselves.

Lopapeysa – Tradition aus Island Masche für Masche erleben 🧶

Kurs mit Maria Nefischer im Textilen Zentrum Haslach, 📅27. - 31. Juli 2026

Lopapeysa bedeutet übersetzt „Pullover aus Islandwolle“ – aber es ist so viel mehr als nur ein wärmendes Kleidungsstück. Es ist ein Teil Geschichte, ein bisschen Rebellion und ganz viel Kreativität. In diesem Kurs lernen wir mehr über den Hintergrund des Pullis und auch über das Material, aus dem er gestrickt wird – die faszinierende Wolle der Island-Schafe, eine der ältesten und reinsten domestizierten Schafrassen der Welt.
Im Kurs stricken wir einen Pullover aus Islandwolle und lernen so auch die Konstruktion einer Rundpasse, die typisch für einen Lopapeysa ist.

Lopapeysa - experience Icelandic tradition loop by loop 🧶

Workshop with Maria Nefischer at the Textile Center Haslach, 📅27. - 31. July 2026

Lopapeysa translates as „jumper made from Icelandic wool“ - but it is so much more than just a warm item of clothing. It's a piece of history, a bit of rebellion and a whole lot of creativity. In this course we will learn more about the background of the jumper and also about the material it is knitted from - the fascinating wool of the Icelandic sheep, one of the oldest and purest domesticated sheep breeds in the world.
In this course we will knit a jumper from Icelandic wool and learn how to construct a circular yoke, which is typical for a Lopapeysa.

Handtufting

Kurs mit Ingrid Hackl im Textilen Zentrum Haslach, 🗓️ 27. - 31. Juli 2026

Das Handtuften ist eine faszinierende Technik, bei der man mit einem pistolenartigen Gerät Florfäden in ein Grundgewebe einschießt. Dadurch können auf relativ einfache Weise wollige Teppiche und Wandbehänge hergestellt werden, die im Design völlig frei sind.
Die Teilnehmer:innen lernen alle Arbeitsschritte kennen, vom Aufspannen des Grundgewebes über das Bedienen der Handtuftmaschine bis hin zum richtigen Verleimen der Rückseite der Teppiche. Alle Teilnehmer:innen tuften jeweils einen Teppich aus hochwertiger Shetlandwolle (ca. 0,5 m2) und probieren verschiedene Techniken aus.

Handtufting

Hand tufting is a fascinating technique in which pile threads are shot into a base fabric using a gun-like device. This makes it relatively easy to produce woollen carpets and wall hangings that are completely free in design.
Participants learn about all the work steps, from stretching the base fabric and operating the hand tufting machine to correctly gluing the back of the rugs. All participants will each tuft a carpet made from high-quality Shetland wool (approx. 0.5 m2) and try out different techniques.

Primäre Textile Techniken werden Verfahren genannt, welche ohne oder mit wenigen Hilfsmitteln und Geräten aus fadenförmigem Material haltbare Strukturen erzeugen. Es entstehen dichte oder lichte Textilien, flächenförmig oder frei in den Raum gearbeitet – seit Jahrtausenden, in allen Kulturen und Erdteilen. Ganz gleich, ob an der Strukturbildung ein einzelner Faden beteiligt ist, oder zwei, oder ganz viele – die möglichen Ergebnisse sind von erstaunlicher Vielfalt und beinhalten ein beachtliches gestalterisches Potential.

Klöppeln – eine (Ein-)Führung durch Fläche und Raum

Klöppeln ist ein faszinierendes Kunsthandwerk. Ob als zarte Spitzen aus Leinen oder zeitgenössischer filigraner Schmuck aus Metallfäden, begeistern geklöppelte Werke oft auch ob ihrer Komplexität. Dieser Kurs richtet sich an alle Personen, die sich für die (Grundlagen der) Klöppeltechnik interessieren. Wir beginnen als Einführung mit den Grundschlägen aus textilem Material. Je nach Kenntnisstand kann direkt mit Metall begonnen und auch dreidimensional gearbeitet werden. Im weiteren Verlauf beschäftigen wir uns mit den Möglichkeiten und Unterschieden von Metall und textilem Material, fertigen Materialproben und entdecken die Eigenheiten sowie Grenzen des Materials.

Bobbin lace making is a fascinating craft. Whether as delicate lace made of linen or contemporary filigree jewellery made of metal threads, bobbin lace works often inspire with their complexity. This course is aimed at anyone who is interested in the basics of bobbin lace making. As an introduction, we start with basic bobbin lace made from textile material. Depending on your level of knowledge, you can start directly with metal and also work three-dimensionally. As the course progresses, we will look at the possibilities and differences between metal and textile material, make material samples and discover the characteristics and limitations of the material.
