EUYO - The European Union Youth Orchestra

Pre-eminent orchestra of young musicians from all . European Cultural Brand of the Year 2020.

The European Union Youth Orchestra is one of the world’s pre-eminent symphony orchestras. Its 120 young musicians, aged 16-26 from all 27 EU countries, are selected annually from more than 2500 candidates. The Orchestra has worked with many of the world’s greatest musicians, from Founding Music Director Claudio Abbado to current Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko. It has appeared many hundreds of tim

es across five continents, including at the BBC Proms, Carnegie Hall, and Vienna’s Musikverein. Recent projects include the Frontrunners online learning hub, the Peace in Europe concert series, Music Hub Austria, and Café Bauhaus, all innovative programmes relating to important current issues in society. At the end of 2022, the Orchestra was proud to announce its new home in Grafenegg, supported by the Governments of Lower Austria and the Federal Republic of Austria. The EUYO is supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme and the 27 EU Member States.

👮‍♀️👮‍♂️ Three police officers. 🪖 Three military personnel. 🤝 Three civilians. Every year, German Peacekeeping Day honours nine outstanding individuals serving in international peace operations. 🌍🕊️

From countering disinformation📱 and supporting the prosecution of war crimes, to protecting civilians from conflict-related sexual violence, they serve in very different roles around the world. What unites them? A common purpose: keeping peace. 🕊️

Huge congratulations to Rudolf Buchbinder and our wonderful colleagues at Grafenegg on last night's opening of the 𝗥𝘂𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗳 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗹! 👏💐🎶

Beautifully realised in every detail, the new hall is an acoustic triumph for solo and chamber music performance. If you have access to ORF III or ORF ON, you have a month to enjoy the superb inaugural concert with Buchbinder, Camilla Nylund and the Steude Quartet 🎹🎤🎻

Throwback to Oulu 🇫🇮✨

Our musicians were proud to be part of another fantastic Europe Day celebration, discovering Finland up close while working alongside the Oulu Sinfonia in a truly special international collaboration. 🇪🇺

We are so happy to conclude this experience with such beautiful memories, and we know they will continue to inspire us every day. ✨

“Be critical, be loud, be uncomfortable. Take responsibility. Have the courage to think big. The future of Europe is not decided some time, but now. It is decided with you.”

With these words, Governor of Lower Austria Johanna Mikl-Leitner addressed 400 young people gathered at Grafenegg on 18 May, alongside Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, former President of the German Parliament Norbert Lammert, and distinguished guests from across politics and diplomacy.

We were there applauding our , performing at the 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 and opening the 30th anniversary edition of Europa Forum Wachau. The evening’s theme: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟯𝟬.

It has been our honour to contribute musical moments to Europa-Forum Wachau since setting up home in Austria in 2023. At 2024's edition, the then High Representative of the Union and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles reminded us that governance must be transformative — advancing peace, quality of life, community service, and freedom.

𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲... all you musicians out there, 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿? It's no coincidence that important summits include artistic frameworks 🙌

The 🇪🇺 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁 for 🇫🇮 Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽!

👏 💐 to our amazing and colleagues of the Oulu Sinfonia - Oulu Symphony Orchestra, maestro 𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮, mezzo-soprano 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, tenor 𝗧𝘂𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗹𝗮 and composer Lara Poe. Our shared performance 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲! took us from the exuberance of Dvořák's Carnival Overture to the world premiere of Poe's 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘨, followed by Mahler's great late work 𝘋𝘢𝘴 𝘓𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘷𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘌𝘳𝘥𝘦.

We also listened to an insightful pre-concert discussion with Helena Petäistö, Mikko Vähä-Sipilä, Harriet Urponen and our Director Marshall Marcus about how Europe will go forth into the future.

Oulu2026's goal is 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: a permanently richer cultural life full of interest, hope, joy, new ideas that shape the future, and understanding born of listening to each other.

Our heartfelt thanks to our Finnish hosts for such a warm welcome, beautiful artistic experience and exchange, and the opportunity to discover Oulu - like its three Capital of Culture themes: 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹, and 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲.

From 🇫🇮 Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026, guests of Oulu Sinfonia - Oulu Symphony Orchestra 🙏🏻 in our special 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁.

Music is about connection, movement, exchange, togetherness. Our classical music began in Europe and has never stopped moving. Like today’s concert programme, it’s a mosaic of stories, discoveries, people, ideas.
