Here is the brand new picture that I didn’t quite get finished in time to show you last week.
I really hope you like it. The words are from The Velveteen Rabbit and I’ve been wanting to use them for such a long time.
As my garden is stuck together with bamboo canes, I really wanted to include them in a picture.
Gardening on clay is always a struggle so if things are really important to me, I always resort to pots.
Though I’ve been busy looking after two homes, two men (my father and son), three donkeys and a very needy dog who is missing her mum, I’ve still been blown away by the show that nature has been putting on here. The Swallows put on a spectacular air display every day. I had a dragonfly hunting up and down the hedgerow right next to me as I took Bella out for an evening walk. The little rabbit family have been thriving.
With most young fledged and our fields full of grass seeds, crickets and grass hoppers, the birds are hardly eating any of the food I put out. Nature is providing - all because we don’t chop it all down.
I’m starting to get sugar craving, sleepy wasps (we’ve two nests very close to my house). So they are enjoying the sultanas that go out for the blackbirds.
And the crowning glory. A magnificent hornets nest on the side of my decking. I heard it before I saw it. It’s behind a huge fig tree and there was a clicking noise.
Oh the beauty of it.
And before you say anything about how dreadful they are and they eat the bees. They don’t here. They never come indoors and because there is a huge amount of plants for them to feed from, they can all live in harmony. And I think that’s a really important point. Because it’s as animals compete for limited and increasingly scarce resources that you get the problems.
