Dear Indigenous representatives,
We are delighted to inform you that the Application for indigenous peoples to participate in the Universal Periodic Review and the Treaty Bodies human rights mechanisms is now OPEN! As usual, the Treaty Bodies events and Human Rights Council will be conducted in the United Nations Office in Geneva and the deadline to accept your applications is 31 August 2022.
This year, the UN Voluntarily Fund for Indigenous Peoples will support the participation of a number of indigenous representatives from eligible countries to participate in the following Treaty Body human rights mechanisms:
1) Universal Periodic Review (UPR) / 41st session
Date of the event: 7 - 18 November 2022
Eligible countries: Ecuador, Tunisia, Morocco, Indonesia, Finland, India, Brazil, Philippines, Algeria, and South Africa.
2) Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) / 75th session
Date of the event: 31 October – 25 November 2022
Eligible countries: Australia, Chad, El Salvador, Malawi, Somalia, and Uganda.
3) International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) / 107th Session
Date of the event: 14 November - 2 December 2022
Eligible countries: Botswana, Brazil, France, and Jamaica
