This April, Agora Now turns five years old as a foundation.

Since we started we have shown how our pioneering model can work in practice. As we enter our sixth year, we’re taking time to document and share what we’ve learnt.

By dedicating time to write up all the learning, we aim to create an inspiring resource for everyone committed to nurturing artistic and creative experiment drawing on what we’ve learnt in 5 years of research and programmes.

We expect to start publishing the fruits of this work in the autumn. In the meantime, over the spring and summer months, we will be in a quieter phase.
We look forward to sharing more later this year.

As 2025 comes to a close, we are proud to share a snapshot of the work developed this year across our four hubs. From online Thinking Spaces to micro-residencies in Rotterdam, new partnerships in Buenos Aires, and the first steps towards our East Anglia hub, Agora Now has continued to explore how artists and activism can shape meaningful transformation.

Thank you to all the artists, collaborators, partners and communities who have been part of this year’s journey.

We will return in the new year with expanded programmes, new residencies, and the next phase of our long-term work. There is much more to come!

Wishing everyone a wonderful festive period and a very happy new year.

Happy Christmas, and see you in January.

The South–South Live Arts Residency with Masi Mamani (Jujuy) began in November in Buenos Aires. The opening night was filled with movement, exchange and powerful reflections on bodies, memory and territory.

Over the past four weeks before this, Masi has led a workshop exploring “cuerpos despojados and territorios inmateriales”: asking where displaced bodies dance, sound and belong. Drawing from Andean dance and sound practices — not only as folklore, but as living knowledge — the residency invites us to rethink Western notions of art and to create from other cultural perspectives.

From collective making to reimagining the creative body through music, dance, costume and even “waste” as material, the night marked the beginning of a vibrant process of shared creation.

One year after Liquid Becomings: The European Pavilion came to an end, we’re happy to share that many projects are emerging from collaborations between the participating artists.

It’s beautiful to see these powerful seeds and developments — and we hope they keep growing!

The South–South Residency Programme in Buenos Aires is in full flow! Swipe left to check it out.

Since October, Masi Mamani, an Indigenous artist from the Kolla nation in Jujuy, has been working through bodily and musical practices and creating ancestral materialities from rubbish, proposing questions about national and native identity.

As proposed by the programme, the residency offers two simultaneous work formats:
1. The research/creation project proposed by , developed daily for six weeks across the programme’s locations and contextual territories, in the south region of Buenos Aires city.
2. A programme of open sessions for the community, composed of both amateurs and professionals, where Masi Mamani can share her practices and experiences.
We’ll be sharing more about it soon. Stay tuned!

“Finding ways to navigate futures of mutuality and plurality – imperfect and together – metabolic – utopic – seem to me so incredibly urgent. Artistic and performance practices – the intelligence of the embodied state – catalyse this unlike anything else.”

This month, Naomi Russell, Agora Now’s founder, gave a short spoken presentation at a gathering organised by + in Felixstowe, called “Ports, Portals and Possibilities”, a meeting on socially engaged arts practice in the East. She shared the experience of Liquid Becomings, and how it is inspiring the first small steps to develop a third hub of Agora in East Anglia, UK.

The speech became an inspiring and provocative text — now available on Agora Now’s Issuu (link in bio). Check it out!

How do we become a ‘we’ again?

THIS FRIDAY, in the next Thinking Space session, we’ll hear reflections and curiosities from an eight-week collaborative residency that held this question at its core.

The photo, taken by during session 5 of the residency, shows when Maurice Meewisse invited the Rotterdam Artist Workgroup to his studio for a meeting exploring the studio as a shared space — one where different practices and artists could work together and influence one another through proximity.

Join us to learn more about this and other experiences!

The theme of “Becoming a ‘we’ again” can spark many reflections and questions. These were explored during a meeting of the 2025 Rotterdam Artist Workgroup residency, powered by Agora Now, when Weia Tan invited participants to make gyoza together and reflect on how food and shared meals can connect us — and shape a sense of “we”.

Subscribe for free on Eventbrite (link in bio) to learn more about this eight-week collaborative residency and hear reflections from the five artists.

For East Anglia, Agora Now is developing its third hub, which will take shape as a boat that travels up and down the Suffolk and Norfolk coastline.

Our first step to engage with the local territory has been a listening exercise where we travelled from Felixstowe to Great Yarmouth, gathering incredible sounds, stories, and connections — enough to inspire at least two podcast or radio episodes.

When we asked Graffiti artist and local activist Karl Trosclair from Great Yarmouth what he would like to do on our boat once it’s built, he summed it up beautifully:

“I’d go fishing, I’d like to reconnect with the sea. At one time everyone in this town had a relationship with the sea. The sea used to be a bridge, but now it’s a barrier.”

The resulting sound piece will premiere in January 2026.

The next step for Agora Now’s Rotterdam Hub is to take on a more permanent space in Rotterdam Zuid.

This longer-term space, with activities starting in January 2026, will allow us to expand our programme of residencies, knowledge exchange, neighbourhood and community engagement.

In the first 12 months we plan:
- 2 more “slow” residencies for a Dutch based artist and an international artist;
- a micro residency for 5 local artists;
- an opening festival in the Spring with workshops, performances and open discussions: the first Agora Now international ideas LAB.

Rotterdam is the first Agora Now hub worldwide. The city is the living laboratory of the Netherlands with an open mindset, entrepreneurial spirit and “make it happen” mentality. Its values of inclusivity, innovation and interconnectivity are part of Agora Now’s DNA. A port city, Rotterdam is a connection to the world. Agora Now’s hub in Rotterdam sets the example for future Agora Now city hubs worldwide.

Help us make this amazing programme of activity happen!

Thanks to our Rotterdam funders and partners, past and present:
