Although born female, Fran has chosen to live her life as a man, upholding the tradition of the ‘sworn virgins’ in Albania. In order to become a mother to her motherless niece, she must make the difficult decision between maintaining her 'manhood' or reconnecting with the maternal feelings she has long suppressed, and finally choose between keeping the child close or giving the young girl wings.

Inspired by his own experiences growing up around sworn virgins, director Andamion Murataj delivers a deeply moving portrait of identity, love, and sacrifice.

Andamion Murataj is a writer and director with a background in visual arts. In 2009, founded Lissus Media, an Albanian production company. Andamion co-wrote and co-produced the feature film “The Forgiveness of Blood,” for which he received The Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlinale. He founded Lissus Media, an Albanian production company. He is a founder and the director of Balkan Film Market and Albascript Workshops.Andamion holds an MFA in Film and Electronic Media from American University in Washington D.C.
