Today, we are happy to inform that the results of the 3rd edition of the Western Balkansโ€“Visegrad Fellowship are official.

Following a careful evaluation process, 51 fellows were selected, marking a clear increase from the 41 and 44 fellows awarded in the first two editions.

๐Ÿ‘‰ From civil society to academia, culture, business and media โ€” the response from the region reaffirms a shared commitment to advancing gender equality through regional cooperation.

What happens next: All eligible applications now move into the evaluation phase, assessed by the Western Balkans Fund together with external assessors against the published criteria. Successful applicants will be notified directly, and the selected projects will be announced publicly in July 2026.

๐Ÿค Today in Sofia ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ, the Western Balkans Fund participated in the 18th Annual Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council, co-chaired by the Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office of the SEECP.

๐Ÿ‘‰From Montenegro ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ช last week to Bulgaria today, one message has been clearly reaffirmed: Regional organisations matter more than ever.

๐Ÿ‘‰ We fully share the view expressed by RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanoviฤ‡: โ€œOur focus now must be on implementation, results and investment; on regional initiatives that make cooperation visible and useful to citizens, businesses and institutionsโ€.

๐ŸŸข Through grants, partnerships, mobility, youth cooperation, gender equality initiatives and support for civil society, we remain committed to making regional cooperation visible, concrete and meaningful across the Western Balkans.

In Montenegro ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ช, further steps are being taken to bring the region closer together and closer to the EU.

โœ…๏ธ From 2027, the European Commission intends to open the DiscoverEU travel programme to young people from across the Western Balkans.

Beyond this, more support and more opportunities will be provided to citizens, young people, civil society organisations, women, communities and grassroots initiatives across the region in general.

๐Ÿ‘ The Western Balkans Fund is part of this story.

With our Grant for Grassroot Organisations, the Gender Equality Fund, ERC Grants and many other grant scheme, we are supporting a stronger, more connected Europe for the next generation.

๐Ÿงฉ Yesterday in Budva, we had the pleasure to participate in the reception marking the 10th anniversary of RYCOโ€™s establishment.

๐Ÿค RYCO (in 2016) and the Western Balkans Fund (2017) were both created as practical regional tools with a clear mission: to bring people closer, especially young people, through cooperation, dialogue, mobility, common projects and shared ideas.

๐Ÿ“ข That's why, celebrating this milestone means celebrating not only an anniversary.

๐Ÿ™ It means celebrating the power of a simple but transformative idea: that the future of the Western Balkans depends on the bridges we build between our people.

๐ŸŽฏ Once more, the Western Balkans Fund congratulates RYCO on its 10th birthday and looks forward to continuing our joint mission of strengthening regional cooperation, reconciliation and people-to-people connectivity across the Western Balkans.

There are many ways of promoting regional cooperation. One of them is to appeal to the heart and to the emotions. With his photo exhibition, Alexander Crnogorac, a WBF grantee has done just exactly that.
