🇦🇱| “Letërsia, një formë arti Pamor apo Aureal?”, kjo qe pyetja e shtjelluar nga Kristoffer Leandoer gjatë takimit të katërt të Annex. Duke ndërtuar mbi veprën e eksponentëve të rëndësishëm të historisë së letërsisë (kryesisht Perëndimore) përftuam një këndvështrim tjetër mbi temat kryesore të interesit të programit Annex, si: formulimi/implementimi dhe advokimi i politikave gjithëpërfshirëse përmes artit dhe kulturës, në emër të të drejtave të njeriut dhe një të ardhmeje të qëndrueshme.
Falënderojmë Kristoffer Leandoer për ligjëratën, partnerët tanë në projekt si dhe të gjithë ju që e ndoqët në prani apo në stream. Për kë nuk ka mundur të jetë i pranishëm, linku vijon të jetë i aksesueshëm në faqen tonë.
Ky aktivitet u organizuar në kuadër të ArtNexus Programme në Shqipëri.

🇬🇧| “Is Literature a Visual or an Aural Form of Art?” was the question elaborated by Kristoffer Leandoer during the fourth Annex meeting. Building on the work of crucial exponents of the history of literature (mostly Western) we obtained a different perspective on some of the main fields of interest of the Annex programme, such as: the implementation and advocacy of inclusive policies through art and culture, in the name of human rights and a sustainable future for all.
We would like to thank Kristoffer Leandoer for the inspiring lecture, our partners in this project as well as all of you who attended in person or online. For those who could not join, please find the streaming link on our page.

This activity was organized in the ambit of the ArtNexus Programme in Albania.

Kristoffer Leandoer është poet, eseist, kritik letrar, romancier dhe përkthyes suedez i profilit të lartë. Debutimi i tij në 1987, me përzgjedhjen poetike “Dykarklocka” u pasua nga një bibliografi e larmishme e përbërë nga më shumë se 30 libra të botuar, duke përfshirë tregime horror, romane fantazie, e një vepër madhore mbi historinë e letërsisë franceze (Shtëpia që ndërtoi Proust. 200 Vitet e modernizmit francez). Ai është nderuar me çmime për esetë e tij rreth natyrës së letërsisë dhe procesit të leximit dhe shkrimit dhe është nominuar dy herë për çmimin prestigjioz August Prize – në vitin 2010 (eseja Maska. Letërsia si vend i fshehtë) dhe në 2020 (eseja Longing Home, Longing Away, aktualisht në përkthim në gjuhën shqipe). Libri i tij i fundit, eseja “Den oavslutade litteraturen” (Letërsi e papërfunduar) u botua në janar 2023. Një herë anëtar i komitetit të Nobelit, Leandoer aktualisht jeton në Tiranë.

Kristoffer Leandoer, born in Stockholm 1962, is a Swedish high-profile poet, essayist, literary critic, novelist and translator. His debut in 1987, the poetry selection Dykarklocka (Diving Bell) has been followed by a varied bibliography consisting of more than 30 published books, including horror stories, fantasy novels, a major work on French literary history (The House That Proust Built. 200 Years of French Modernism). He is many times awarded for his essays about the nature of literature and the process of reading and writing and is twice nominated for the prestigious August Prize – in 2010 (the essay Mask. Literature as Hiding Place) and in 2020 (the essay Longing Home, Longing Away, currently being translated into Albanian). His latest book, the essay Den oavslutade litteraturen (Unfinished Literature) was published in January 2023 and has spent the spring as a steady feature on literary critics’ favourite lists. One time member of the Nobel committee, Leandoer currently lives in Tirana.

Abi Shehu is a multi-disciplinary visual artist living between Berlin and Tirana.

Her work is influenced by in-depth aesthetic research. She creates portraits of humanity by exploring fundamental existential experiences, such as: death rituals, memory, amnesia and unconsciousness. Her artistic research can be described as an archaeology of unconsciousness. Through a combination of visual and media art, from installation to sound art, she recreates the unconscious landscapes that create the unpresentable and unknowable dimensions of people, societies, places and historical events.

Together with Emiliano Lule and Annex Pilot team, she has created an inclusive version of her 12-channel animation piece called ‘Sahara’.

The series of 12 videos by Abi Shehu animates the graffiti found on the walls of one of the most notorious prisons in Albania from 1968-1990, Spaçi prison. Drawn by the prisoners in the last years of the prison's existence, these images, not only serve as archaeological relics, they also show the prisoner’s imagination and desires in freedom. They depict clichés of television, football, eroticism, consumption and here and there scenes of indirect violence. Their image of freedom coincides with the image of the Albanians after the fall of the regime already indoctrinated by Western television propaganda.
The audio description of these videos approximates the method of describing two-dimensional images of paintings and photographs rather than describing moving images. Focused on the detailed description of the drawing and of the characters the sound stimulates the imagination for reading their action.

Abi Shehu është një artiste ndërdisiplinore vizuale që jeton midis Berlinit dhe Tiranës.

Puna e Abi Shehut është e ndikuar nga kërkimi i thelluar estetik. Ajo krijon portrete të njerëzimit duke hulumtuar përvoja ekzistenciale dhe thelbësore si: ritualet e vdekjes, kujtesën, amnezinë dhe të pavetëdijshmen. Kërkimi i saj artistik mund të përshkruhet si një arkeologji e pavetëdijes. Përmes një kombinimi të artit vizual dhe multimedial, prej instalacioneve tek arti zanor, ajo rikrijon hapësira të pavetëdijes që krijojnë dimensione të papërfaqësueshme dhe të panjohshme të njerëzve, shoqërive, vendeve dhe ngjarjeve historike.

Së bashku me Emiliano Lulen dhe ekipin e Annex Pilot ajo ka krijuar një version inkluziv të series se saj me 12 video animacione të quajtur ‘Sahara’.

Seria e 12 videove të Abi Shehut animon grafitet e gjendura në muret e një prej burgjeve më famëkeqe të Shqipërisë prej 1968-1990: burgut të Spaçit. Të vizatuara prej të burgosurve në vitet e fundit të ekzistencës së këtij burgu, këto imazhe përveç se shërbejnë si relika arkeologjike të tij, tregojnë edhe përfytyrimet dhe dëshirat e tyre në liri. Vizatimet e të burgosurve përbëjnë klishe të televizionit, futbollit, erotizmit, konsumit dhe aty këtu, skena dhune direkte apo indirekte. Përfytyrimi i tyre i lirisë përkon me përfytyrimin e shumë shqiptarëve pas rënies së regjimit, të indoktrinuar tashmë nga propaganda e televizioneve perëndimore.

Përshkrimi zanor këtu i përafrohet përshkrimit të imazheve dy dimensionale të vizatimeve dhe fotografive më tepër se sa përshkrimit të një pune filmike. Përshkrimi i detajeve të vizatimeve dhe ai i personazheve nxit imagjinatën për leximin e aksionit të tyre.

Remijon Pronja is a visual artist based in Tirana and lecturer at Polis University.

His artistic practice encompasses videos, installations, paintings, and drawings that shed light on social issues and contemporary states of being such as phobias, homesickness, migration and sense of loss. Pronja intentionally creates in his works an atmosphere of estranged situation that throws the audience out of their comfort zone by presenting them a scenario that pursues no expectable logic. Indeed, this lack of harmony disrupts and disturbs our preconceived register of knowledge in order to open up our horizons onto some unexplored or unimaginable possibilities – how to think the Self and the Other as part of our common (human) condition at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

For Annex Pilot Remijon contributed by co-creating an inclusive version of his video piece ‘Untitled in Alegro Moderato’.

The video shows a cellist attempting to play Ludwig van Beethoven's Ode to Joy using a handwritten score for his cello part. His difficulty in playing the music of the score without interruption comes from the fact that the map of Europe has been sketched in water on the score, which has damaged the legibility of the notes. The attempt to visually form a map of Europe on the score fragments the sound of what has today been adopted as its anthem. The video explores the notion of Europe unity while suggesting from its title (the mode of the music) simultaneously a restrained joy.
The audio description for the video replaces the two-dimensional imagery of the film frame with a three-dimensionality that invites the viewer to become part of the action taking place in the projection in front of him.

Remijon Pronja është një artist pamor me bazë në Tiranë dhe një pedagog në Universitetin Polis.

Praktika e tij artistike përfshin video, instalacione, piktura dhe vizatime që hedhin dritë mbi çështjet sociale dhe gjendjet bashkëkohore të qenies si fobitë, malli për shtëpinë, migrimi dhe ndjenja e humbjes. Pronja krijon qëllimisht në veprat e tij një atmosferë tëhuajtje, që e nxjerr audiencën nga zona e rehatisë duke i paraqitur një skenar që nuk ndjek asnjë logjikë të pritshme. Në të vërtetë, kjo mungesë harmonie prish dhe shqetëson regjistrin tonë të paracaktuar të njohurive për të hapur horizontet tona ndaj disa mundësive të pashkelura ose të paimagjinueshme - si të mendojmë Veten dhe Tjetrin si pjesë të gjendjes sonë të përbashkët (njerëzore) në fillim të shekulli njezet e nje.

Për Annex Pilot Remijoni kontribuoi duke bashkë-krijuar një version gjithëpërfshirës të videos së tij 'Untitled in Allegro Moderato'.

Videoja paraqet një violonçelist që përpiqet të luajë Odën e Gëzimit të Ludvig van Bethoven-it duke përdorur një partiturë të shkruar me dorë për pjesën e tij në violonçel. Vështirësia e tij për të luajtur pa ndërprerje muzikën e partiturës vjen nga fakti që mbi partiturë është skicuar me ujë harta e Evropës, skicimi i së cilës ka dëmtuar lexueshmërinë e notava. Përpjekja për të formuar vizualisht një hartë të Evropës mbi partiturë, fragmenton tingullin e asaj që sot është adoptuar si himni i saj. Videoja eksploron nocionin e unitetit evropian duke filluar që nga titulli i cili tregon modalitetin e muzikës dhe njëkohësh*t sugjeron një gëzim të vetëpërmbajtur.
Përshkrimi zanor këtu zëvendëson përfytyrimin dydimensional të kuadrit filmik me një tre dimensionalitet që fton shikuesin të bëhet pjesë e veprimit që po ndodh në projeksion përballë.

Sead Kazanxhiu is a visual artist based in Tirana.

He works across various mediums, including painting, installations, video, and performance. Kazanxhiu’s work as an artist, and as a cultural producer more generally, reflects his position as an Albanian Roma citizen. Profoundly aware of the ways that social and political hierarchies within the nation-state reinforce unequal privileges and prevent participation, Kazanxhiu’s practice foregrounds and addresses issues of politics, activism, prejudice, exclusion, and the environment.
Sead teamed up with the Annex Pilot initiators to create an inclusive version of his documented performance ‘Muddling’.

The video documents a performance in which the author himself has called the female members of his Roma family to perform the purifying ritual of preparing the shishik, mud, and mudding him and his work tools as a form of blessing for his new governmental duty in support of the Roma community. The performance plays with the ambiguity of the concept of “muddling” in politics and Roma culture while by using a Roma ritual reckon in their cultural registers also the act of representation in politics.
The audio description for this nonverbal video piece focuses on the description of the action, typical elements of Roma identity and the use of words/concepts such as “muddling” to convey the idea behind the performance.

Ai punon në mediume të ndryshme, duke përfshirë pikturën, instalacione,video dhe performanca. Puna e Kazanxhiut si artist, dhe si një prodhues kulturor në përgjithësi, pasqyron pozicionin e tij si qytetar rom shqiptar. Duke qenë thellësisht i vetëdijshëm për mënyrat se si hierarkitë sociale dhe politike brenda shtetit-komb përforcojnë privilegjet e pabarabarta dhe parandalojnë pjesëmarrjen, praktika e Kazanxhiut vendos në plan të parë dhe trajton çështje të politikës, aktivizmit, paragjykimit, përjashtimit dhe mjedisit.
Seadi ju bashkua iniciatorëve të Annex Pilot për të krijuar një version inkluziv të performancës së tij të dokumentuar “Baltosje”.

Videoja dokumenton një akt performativ ku vetë autori ka thirrur pjesëtaret gra të familjes së tij rome të kryejnë ritualin purifikues të përgatitjes së shishikut (baltës) dhe baltosjen e tij dhe mjeteve të tij të punës si një formë bekimi për detyrën e re qeveritare që ka marrë në mbështetje të komunitetit rom. Performanca luan me dykuptueshmërinë e konceptit të baltosjes në politikë dhe në kulturën rome. Gjithashtu, duke përdorur këtë ritual shton në regjistrat e kulturës dhe identitetit rom edhe përfaqësimin e tyre në politikë.
Përshkrimi zanor këtu përqëndrohet tek përshkrimi i aksionit, përshkrimin e elementëve tipikë të identitetit rom dhe përdorimi i fjalë/koncepteve të tilla si baltosja për të trasmetuar idenë ku mbështetet performanca.

Donika Çina is a visual artist and cultural activator based in Tirana.

Her artistic practice is a multimedia agglomeration of video arts, objects and performances organized in projects that develop and change in time as an ongoing narrative; the subject of this being more than often personal stories and their relation to collective memory and historical events. Therefore, archival material and documentation are the main strategies on her hand.

She is the initiator of Annex Pilot as an extension of her Surface Project, an audience interactive performance with blind actors.

Together with an accessible communication expert, Emiliano Lule she created an inclusive version of one of her earlier video pieces “Four Quarters”.

The video shows a group of children following the chant of a silly rhyme. The musical rhythm of which serves as an enumerating process to play an election game which will determine for the subsequent game, the elected child as the one who’s going to close the eyes while the others will hide in order to later be found. The video explores the possibilities of manipulation by the usage of the verbal language in election situations, whether in naïve game contexts.

The narrative of the audio description for this video has a special focus on the description of the filmic language, the movement of the camera and the choice of the artist to leave most of the action out of it, as to emphasize once again the idea that much more happens in the game than meets the eye.

Donika Çina është një artiste pamore dhe aktivizuese e kulturës që jeton në Tiranë.

Praktika e saj artistike është një grumbullim multimedial i video-arteve, objekteve dhe performancave, të organizuara në projekte që zhvillohen dhe ndryshojnë në kohë si një rrëfim i vazhdueshëm. Subjekt i këtij rrëfimi bëhen shpesh historitë personale dhe lidhja e tyre me kujtesën kolektive dhe ngjarjet historike. Prandaj, materiali arkivor dhe dokumentimi janë strategjitë kryesore në dorën e saj.

Ajo është iniciatorja e Annex Pilot si një zgjatim i Projektit të saj Surface, një shfaqje interaktive e audiencës me aktorë të verbër.

Së bashku me një ekspert komunikimi të aksesueshëm, Emiliano Lule, ajo krijoi një version gjithëpërfshirës të një prej videove të saj të para " Katër të katërtat ".

Videoja paraqet një grup fëmijësh që ndjekin recitimin e një vjershe pa kuptim, ritmi muzikor i të cilës shërben si proces për të luajtur një lojë përzgjedhëse e cila përcakton se cili nga fëmijët do të mbyllë sytë dhe cilët do të fshihen në të ardhmen. Në video eksplorohen mundësitë manipulese të fjalës në situata zgjedhjesh qofshin këto edhe në kontekste naive loje.

Narrativa e përshkrimit zanor ka një fokus të veçantë në përshkrimin e mjetit filmik, lëvizjen e kuadrit dhe zgjedhjen që artisti ka bërë për të lënë jashtë tij pjesën më të madhe të aksionit, si për të theksuar edhe një herë idenë se në lojë ndodhin shumë më shumë gjëra se sa duken.
