An exhibition which has been many years in the making, we begin the 2026 season of exhibitions with a solo show by Driton Selmani anchoring his practice on the shoreline of Southern Albania, a territory he has consistently documented throughout decades of calling it a second home. Join us for the sunset at Galeria e Bregdetit on June 6th.

This project has been made possible by the support of MTKS, the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports.

Songs of Serpents – Art, Landscapes, Ecofeminism(s)

👉 Symposium

📆 17 April, 1–9pm

🎟️ Free entry

Artists who engage with ecofeminist concepts today combine values of diversity, coexistence between human and more-than-human species, and social justice with feminist discourses and artistic methods. Art becomes a place or mechanism that promotes healing, regeneration, ecological knowledge, and awareness.

The symposium takes as its starting point the exchange project “Songs of Serpents – Ecopoetic Zones”, which connects artist residencies in peripheral locations in Germany, Italy, Albania, Ukraine, and Lithuania. The network promotes transdisciplinary research at the intersection of art, ecology, and ecofeminism(s).

Panels, keynotes and lecture performances with:
Antonia Alampi , Neringa Bumbliené , Dasha Chechushkova , David Faro .ffaro, Philine Griem, Clara Herrmann , Thomas Höhne, Suza Husse, Hans Joosten, Stefanie Kaboth-Bahr, Alona Karavai, Saskia Köbschall , Christina Landbrecht, Marina Naprushkina , Goda Palekaitè , Alona Pardo , Sophie Seita , Elian Stefa .stefa, Joulia Strauss , Yuliia Volkovska, Gerta Xhaferaj

We are very excited to invite you for the first online experts dialogue as part of the artistic research and exchange project “Songs of Serpents – Ecopoetic Zones” focusing on regional aspects of Albania with the speakers Arnisa Zeqo and Besjana Shehu.

“Songs of Serpents” establishes a transnational platform for networking and knowledge exchange with residency partners in Albania, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, and Ukraine. It connects local perspectives and initiatives and enables new artistic projects at the interface of art, ecology, and ecofeminism(s). Each participating location features historically, mythically, and politically charged landscapes with own local characteristics as well as ecological and political realities.

Don't miss this collection of snapshots from ecological activism and feminist thought grounded to the context of the Bay of Vlora, and Albania in general. From foundational moments shaping the early sparks of ecofeminism in the region, to current legal, ecological, and identitarian battles unfolding in real time between the Narta Lagoon, Sazan Island, the Kushners, and ancient water paths being diverted from local communities to irrigate the lawns of oligarch-built resorts.

Parasite 2.0
SEASIDE QUARTET
Curated by Elian Stefa

Galeria e Bregdetit
02.08 - 16.09.2025

Galeria e Bregdetit is pleased to present “Seaside Quartet”, marking the return of Parasite 2.0 to Albania. Following their 2019 project, when the Milan-based architecture and design studio was invited to reimagine the gallery’s interior, Seaside Quartet features an installation where objects and sound work together to create a living space.

The exhibition emerges from an ongoing dialogue between Parasite 2.0 and curator Elian Stefa, grounded in a shared passion for music and for collective spaces activated through sound. From free jazz to rave tribes and DIY sound systems, music (and the tools that enable its propagation) is seen as an integral part of architecture, capable of generating spaces and situations.

Custom-made sound systems once rooted in self-organized parties and marginal communities are often stripped of their original subversive charge In a contemporary culture. The objects in this exhibition stand in opposition to this, and a return to roots, aiming instead for a de-aestheticization of these devices, now reduced to mere icons by the mainstream.
Four reconstructed sound systems, three turntables, and a carefully curated vinyl selection compose the installation, which, like a jazz quartet, plays in unison, in harmony, or in contrast – producing unpredictable sonic textures.

The four sound systems of Seaside Quartet amplify sound by producing and manipulating it spontaneously, using audio waves as instruments in their own right, giving rise to sound through vibration and interaction with both artificial and natural materials.

This exhibition was made possible through the support of Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Tirana, and MEKI the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation of Albania. Realized with the skilled craftsmanship of Apparat Studio.

📽️ Ekrani i Artit is excited to present a short film program at this year’s AVAN meeting, featuring Acqua, porta via tutto by Roland Sejko, Between 10 and 100 hertz by Emilien Dubuc, and sad sad sad sad sad summer by Ornela Alia.

The program brings together three distinct cinematic approaches to the question of community and connection. From archival images and the elemental force of water, to the subtle vibrations of a neighborhood facing erasure, to moments of tenderness and vulnerability in overlooked spaces, these films explore how we live together—through memory, sound, and small gestures. They suggest that community is not only a structure but an act of shared imagination.

South by the Sea 4: Eternity and a Day brings together four Albanian artists, Fatlum Doçi, Blerta Hoçia, Erdiola Kanda, and Olson Lamaj, who in a polyphonic ensemble bring to Galeria e Bregdetit a collective reflection on the social, historic and ecological aspects of the landscape of southern Albania. Through their unique perspectives, the exhibition aims to unfold stories interwoven with the nature and social life of these regions, focusing on the mutual influences between the natural world and human interventions. The exhibition explores the tensions between preservation and exploitation, centering on the impact of urban development, collective memory, and the individual’s intimate relationship with the environment. Each artist employs their chosen medium to convey a distinct narrative, creating a poetic and critical dialogue around these layered landscapes, rich with history and complex identities.
