It's been 2 months since Open Studio 2025 ended, but we're still working behind the scenes preparing the recordings of this year's sessions so that you can watch them, learning from them and share them with anyone who might find them useful.

Here's the first video, the recording of Guava de Artist's presentation from the 1st session - Tuesday, March 4th:

In this talk, Antiguan artist Guava De Art (Ron Howell) shares his artistic journey, painting techniques, and some of his favorite pieces.

Michael Hunt's presentation last month allowed us a more human understanding of building a family and a creative practice simultaneously.

Michael's presentation delved into the precision of his planning which includes drawing the designs that are very much identical to the completed sculptures. We are in awe of Michael Hunt's fearless exploration of sculpture across various materials especially stone.

Thank you, Michael, for the time, stories and knowledge that you shared with us.

Our final 2025 Open Studio artist is the formidable sculptor, Michael Hunt!

His career spans 40+ years of showcasing his talents in stone, wood, and ceramics. Among themes he addresses are island history and ancestry. In 1996, he co-founded Cedars Pottery with Imogen Margrie, his wife and fellow ceramicist. Cedars Pottery, now called .hunt, is also the creative genius behind Team Antigua Horticulture Society's floral stand which won the silver gilt in this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Come, listen, question and mingle at Quay Studio upstairs C & C Winehouse or join via our Facebook Live on July 15th promptly at 6pm for the final Open Studio: Artist Talk session of 2025.

Emile Hill said we outed him as a singer and then proceeded to show the Open Studio audience just how tightly music is bound to his work.

You're welcome, Emile.

All jokes aside...Emile's presentation pulled together not just music, but photography, modelling, the expression of movement and, much like past presenters, revealed deep meaning and the richness of Antiguan culture. But the piece that impacted us most was that of our most well-known revolutionary, Prince Klaas. The piece, which you can see in the images, doesn't just tell the story but physically carries the story in the form of dirt from the area where Prince Klaas' blood was spilled.

We appreciate such reverence of our history, its memory. We appreciate the exaltation of our difficulties and what our foreparents sacrificed to ensure we can walk, speak, learn and rule ourselves without a whip or wheel.

Thank you, Emile...thank you.

We are in the final month of Open studio for this year and the penultimate artist is Emile Hill - painter, photographer, singer. Whenever we encounter him, whether at Art Fest: Secondary School Visual Expo for which he's part of the organising committee or a rehearsal or concert, his passion for the development of local art is also notable.
Next Tuesday, we have the pleasure of sharing space with him and we cannot wait.
We hope to see you there - Tuesday, July 01 at UWI Open Campus (across from Holberton) starting at 6pm.

We didn't expect to feel so... enthralled by Heather Doram's presentation last Tuesday. We didn't expect to see so much of ourselves as artists and women in her journey. But we did and it has left us more energised in our pursuit of art that reflects and speaks to our Antiguan culture and identities that ring true to the most valued parts of who we are as people and artists.

Thank you, Heather Doram Art . Your candour and authenticity continues to inspire.

There is a distinct feeling of home at every Open Studio session and sculpted his section with the steel pan mallets and the emotions and memories from which "Home Suite" was written and composed.

It was a blessing to have you, Khan. And we are also grateful to Julee's for hosting us

One of the sounds we call home is the melody of the steelpan and Open Studio has snagged one of Antigua-Barbuda's contemporary steelpan masters, Khan Cordice
Khan holds the record of the youngest arranger to win the National Panorama at the age of 19 in 2009. He has continued to make many more records in Panorama titles in Antigua and Barbuda. Khan's achievements get us excited, and we cannot wait to hear from him next Tuesday, June 3rd, at Julee's. He'll be sharing a look at translating story and emotion into musical composition.
