🔚2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣🕐2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣🔜

✨ We almost made it to the end of 2020! This week we gathered our global community to reflect and celebrate all that we have overcome in this wild year. Despite the many challenges the year has thrown our way, and despite being separated, we have continued to find ways to connect with one another; for that, we are proud.
🙏🏾 Special shoutout to .azeda and for sharing their remarkable work with our network! And thank you to all who joined us in celebrating our collective resilience and growth. 💬 What are you most proud of in 2020? Share with us in the comment section below.

Check out this article in the Washington Post outlining the 4 key findings from the Portals Policing Project conducted with Gwen Prowse and Vesla Weaver:

1. “Participants feel misrecognized by the police and the United States” and don’t feel like they are treated with compassion or humanity.
2. “Participants’ experiences with police contradict written law and official police procedures” expressing a viewpoint more often as guilty until proven innocent instead of the inverse.
3. “Participants experience distorted responsiveness in policing” noting that police are present to make arrests for many small transgressions but helpful or timely when the community is in need.
4. “Participants respond with what we call collective autonomy” and aim to resolve disputes on a community level whenever possible.

"I spoke with a new friend from Afghanistan. When traveling, I always am bothered by how many wrong stereotypes people have about America. It quickly became clear I knew nothing of Afghanistan, the real Afghanistan, that is, not the one portrayed in navy seal films. My new pen pal told me all about the climate, history and landscape. Afghanistan really sounds like somewhere I’d love – mountains, rivers, and warm weather."

"If we're brave enough through this, we will be able to create a revolution of access and connection. For kids, for each other, there is no reason for us to go back to the traditional school day and say you're locked into the building -you're locked into this schedule. If we really want to be brave. We can take everything we're learning through this and offer something very different. So that brings me joy." -Stefano Chinosi, our Curator.
