We are pleased to present ‘The Canticle of the Birds’, a solo show by Paris based French-Algerian artist and filmmaker Katia Kameli, opening in Dubai on September 23, 5-9 PM

Katia Kameli is a French-Algerian artist and filmmaker living and working in Paris. Her research-based practice is rooted in an exploration of cultural and historical intersections, where the political and the poetic intertwine to reflect on complex narratives of identity, memory, and belonging.

She looks at events that shed light on a global history, characterized by porous boundaries and reciprocal influences. As an artist grounded in two cultures - French and Algerian - Kameli questions the blind spots of history, taking up the role of both intermediary and ‘translator’ between different geographical areas. Kameli raises questions about prevailing power structures, including those related to visual definitions of power.

She seeks to reveal the subtle ways in which history continues to inscribe itself into contemporary life. Her work is an ongoing act of rewriting, one that combines the political with a lyrical sensibility, ultimately offering alternative narratives that challenge dominant, hegemonic discourses.

Taymour Grahne Projects is pleased to present Frogs, Jazz & Blisters, a solo show by Kuwaiti artist Dalal Al-Obaidi, opening today in Dubai, September 23, from 5–9 PM.

In Frogs, Jazz and Blisters, her debut solo exhibition at Taymour Grahne Projects, Dalal Al-Obaidi takes us into a life split between two worlds, London and Kuwait.

Having studied a London-based art course remotely over the past few years, frequent trips to the UK capital were a regular feature of the artist’s life. Since the course ended, Al-Obaidi has been in Kuwait, processing her kaleidoscope of experiences in the UK and making sense of being one person, open and attuned to inspiration everywhere, caught between two very different places.

Taymour Grahne Projects artist Ala Younis presents two upcoming moments in Beirut this September: Battles in a Future Estate, a lecture at Beirut Art Center on September 22, and Huge Likeness, an institutional solo exhibition at the Rose and Shaheen Saleeby Museum, AUB, opening September 25.

As part of the Made With Your Magic public program, Younis will discuss Battles in a Future Estate, her research and art project on the history of Baghdad’s Haifa Street. Through archival materials, textiles and architectural models, the project traces the 1980s housing complex and considers how conflict, sanctions and occupation shaped its architecture and the lives lived within it.

At the Rose and Shaheen Saleeby Museum, Huge Likeness brings together works from Younis’s research-led practice, including Plan for Greater Baghdad (2015), alongside newer works engaging with architecture, archival material and the artist’s own architectural training. The exhibition follows fragments of buildings, images, publications and personal histories into layered narratives of memory, modernity and cultural imagination in the Arab region.

Night takes centre stage in Dalal Al-Obaidi’s Dark Night in Ebisu (2024), where soft pastel pencils give the scene a hazy, atmospheric quality.

Al-Obaidi’s practice is deeply attuned to the emotional character of place. Rather than capturing her surroundings with photographic precision, she softens and intensifies what she sees, allowing colour, light and shadow to shape the mood of the composition. In Dark Night in Ebisu, the result is a scene that feels fleeting and cinematic — like a moment caught in passing and held onto through memory.

A poolside scene is suspended in the warmth of a remembered summer in Dalal Al-Obaidi’s Chalet Poolside II (2026).

The work draws from Al-Obaidi’s memories of childhood in Kuwait, and in particular the chalets where long family gatherings would unfold beside the pool. Rather than populating the scene, the artist leaves it empty, allowing the setting itself to become the focus. Through soft pastel and heightened colour, Al-Obaidi captures not simply a specific place, but the atmosphere that remains when we look back on it years later.

Shaun Ellison’s paintings often begin with the everyday before taking an unexpected turn. In Living Water in the Wilderness (2026), a family connection becomes the catalyst for a playful meeting of places and experiences.

Inspired by a card Ellison painted for a relative returning to California from an African safari, the work nods to his family ties to South Africa while allowing imagination to reshape the original story. The resulting composition reflects the Brooklyn-based artist’s ability to find humour, character and narrative in personal moments.
