Nora Zeid is an illustrator, designer, and visual artist based in Dubai. Her client list includes COTY, VICE, Big Hass, and Dubai Design District.

After working as a designer at an agency for three years, she shifted her focus to freelance illustration.

Featured in the Fontnames Illustrated section in Slanted Magazine #46—Cairo.

I was invited to create an illustration for ’s font ‘Siwa’. You might recognise the name from stories of Alexander the Great’s journey into the desert where he met the Oracle of Ammon. The ruins depicted are that of the Fortress of Shakir in the Siwa Oasis, in Egypt. The sun is made of motifs inspired by traditional Siwan embroidery.

I’m especially proud of this moment. Lars Harmsen, one of Slanted’s founders, was a professor of mine when I was a student. He and his team were working on the Dubai issue at the time, and I hoped I’d get the chance to contribute to their publication someday.

Honored to be featured in Slanted Magazine #46—Cairo.

I was part of the 10×10 section, where the same ten questions are posed to ten designers and artists. We shared our different views on topics tied to Cairo’s creative scene. It was an opportunity to reflect on the parts of my practice connected to the city, as well as read and examine other practitioners’ answers.

Wishing all those who celebrate a joyful Christmas.

This little tree is based off ancient Coptic embroidery motifs, specifically ones I found via coptic_culture highlight about textiles. Old coptic fabrics really do have some of the most beautiful and intricate organic patterns.

The view from the city’s Kasbah. I loved getting lost in the details of this piece, adding layers upon layers until I was happy with it. I can’t wait to go back to Morocco someday.

Latest for the ReCover initiative by an unveiled at the Sharjah International Book Fair.

This cover of Ahmed Shawqi’s Shawqiyat captures moments of the poet’s life that inspired his verses: his years in Egypt and his exile in Andalusia, river reeds and cotton flowers evoking his love for the Nile, the lifeline of his homeland. Around him stand historical figures inspired by the likes of Cleopatra, Antara ibn Shaddad, and Darius II, reflecting his lifelong fascination with history.
