This trick will level up your photo game and it’s FREE!

For over a decade, I’ve been travelling the world as a photographer and videographer. This one tip has helped me save time and took my work from amateur to “omg your camera is so good” (don’t get me started on this) in just 30 seconds.

Using your hand (or any other object) and spinning around in a circle will help you see how the light is working with or against you. Notice how the lighting on my hand changes as I turn toward and away from the light source. See how soft the hand looks when it is lit from behind. Look for angles where you see harsh shadows and avoid those unless you’re looking for drama.

Slowly rotating and tilting your hand to see how light falls on the skin can reveal the most flattering angles, so you can position your subject in the best possible way. That’s pretty much 90% of photography… just understand light!

Firstly, whose grandma filmed this?

This week has been so crazy. I’ve had so many powerful conversations and have really pushed myself outside my comfort zone. I ran my first 10km, filmed for multiple of the world’s top creators and even got put on the spot to introduce myself by .r at the creator dinner in front of 20+ people.

Before I picked up a camera, there was no way I would have been able to speak to people like this. So proud and thankful for the journey so far and the skills I’ve learnt over the last 14 years.

The only thing I’d change is to tell myself I’m not out my depth. I’m not even ankles in. You got this boy!

Strange how we speak to ourselves subconsciously. Let’s fix that.

2 weeks in and these are the lessons that I was reminded of:

1. YOUR MIND IS STRONGER THAN YOU THINK 🧠
I ran my first 10KM in the middle of shooting for the world’s best and biggest creators at the . If you can think it, you can do it. I was 14kg heavier and that’s how most of my friends have known me for most of my life. With pretty much no training, I just ran 10K in 1:04… I always say to start and make it good later. The best part? I did it with my wife… and she has run a marathon.

2. ENERGY IS EVERYTHING🫶🏾
You are infinite. Start acting like it. Move with love and set your intentions on how you can benefit those around you. The universe will handle the rest and the money will come. Keep pushing yourself and speak positively to, about and around yourself. I went from having multiple jobs cancel on me in 1 week 1 to meeting so many amazing individuals in week 2 to feed off my energy and gave it back 10x! Smile. You got this!

3. NETWORK IS NET WORTH. THERE IS STRENGTH IN ALIGNMENT AND NUMBERS 🙏🏽
Without the right people around me, there is no way I could have achieved everything thus far. Pushing those around you and being inspired by them is the key! Keep friends around who aren’t afraid to knock you back into place if you step foot in the wrong direction. Grow together - the whole team eats from the same table. We managed to pull off so many shoots, events and have the most beautiful conversations this weekend because and .v3 shared the vision to make this weekend unforgettable.

Oh and I got a haircut today 😅

After being disconnected in Zanzibar for 4 days recently, I’ve been making a real conscious effort on not falling back into the same habits of being glued to my screen. My whole business pretty much runs on using devices but doing my best to look up and smile 🤓 Grateful for everything that has come and is coming my way 🙏🏽
