LONDON FOODIES love KHADAK Khadak | Dubai

Last night, the Michelin Guide celebrated the restaurants of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. ⭐️

I’ve been lucky enough to try many of the starred restaurants over the years, and I’m particularly happy for the Orfali Brothers — two stars that feel completely deserved.

But I have to admit, I always have a soft spot for the Bib Gourmand selection.

I love that it shines a light on restaurants that tell the story of our region — and increasingly, of the cultures that have shaped the UAE and its food scene.

One restaurant I would particularly recommend is Khadak | Dubai a homegrown concept in Jumeirah founded by Naved Nasir, who previously helped conceptualize Dishoom, engineered its menu and co-authored its bestselling cookbook.

Located at Villa 426 on Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah 2, Khadak celebrates traditional Indian street food, forgotten regional recipes and family favourites such as Shabrati Nihari and Daal Gosht. It’s a warm, generous and deeply personal expression of India’s culinary heritage.

To earn a Michelin Bib Gourmand within six months of opening is a remarkable achievement — and one that feels thoroughly deserved.

For me, this is exactly what makes Dubai’s food scene so exciting: it is vibrant, diverse and constantly evolving, with an impressive level of quality at every level. You can experience ambitious fine dining, but also discover delicious, deeply rooted cuisines, stories and influences that connect the Gulf to India, Persia and far beyond.

DUBAI IS YOUR HOME - 5 hours discovery for newcomers

How do you begin to understand Dubai when you’ve just moved here?

This morning, I spent 5 hours introducing a newcomer to her new city. Not a sightseeing tour, but a crash course in Dubai — understanding how the city works, discovering its different neighbourhoods, opening a few doors, sharing some of its stories, and giving her a sense of everything that is possible here.

And along the way, you have beautiful encounters and because the art scene is rich and so diverse.

Today I will write a special note to .

I’ve been following Abdulla’s work for years, from his beginnings at Mawaheb to his own studio today. I’ve watched his art evolve, but also watched him grow through his art — and that is probably what I love most about his story.

Three of Abdulla’s tiles have been in my kitchen for years: JOMO, WEIRD, and his chicken-and-egg. They make me smile, they make me think, and somehow they’ve become part of our everyday life.

So meeting Abdulla in his studio this morning — and being able to introduce him to someone discovering Dubai — felt very special. It’s a very positive way to look at Dubai and its dynamic art scene.

Behind the landmarks and the extraordinary development, there are artists, creators, personalities and so many beautiful stories.

Abdulla is one of them.

A beautiful artist, but above all, a beautiful person.

DISCONNECT to RECONNECT.
My love for the desert is not a novelty.

Very soon after moving to the United Arab Emirates, I felt the call of this emptiness, of these vast open spaces. Perhaps because they reminded me, in a very different way, of the mountains where I come from.

I quickly found myself wanting to go there again and again.

I have always been fascinated by Wilfred Thesiger and his crossings of the Empty Quarter. I often think about what he must have experienced walking across the sands from Saudi Arabia into what is now the UAE. The simplicity of his days. Making bread over a fire. Walking for hours. The silence. And I wonder what went through his mind as he crossed those immense landscapes.

Today, I experience the desert in my own way. Sometimes on foot, sometimes behind the wheel.

But somehow, the feeling is always the same.

The desert is where I go to disconnect in order to reconnect.

There is something about its immensity that puts everything back into perspective. The silence leaves space for thoughts, but it also has a strange ability to quiet them.

And perhaps I need that more than ever at the moment.

In a world I sometimes struggle to understand, where I seem to have more whys than answers, the desert remains one of the few places where I don’t feel the need to understand everything.

I can simply walk. Drive. Look at the horizon.

And be.

🇦🇪 FROM AED 1.72 TO AED 4.28… WHAT HAPPENED? Here the insight 👇

When I arrived in Dubai in 2010, Special 95 was AED 1.72 per litre.

Today, in October 2026, it is AED 4.28/L.

But behind those two numbers lies a much bigger story: the transformation of the UAE’s approach to energy and mobility.

⛽ 2015 was a turning point.
The UAE deregulated fuel prices, moving away from the old subsidised system towards prices linked to international markets.

🌱 The objective went beyond the price at the pump: reduce consumption, encourage more fuel-efficient vehicles and support a more sustainable economy.

⚡ Then came the infrastructure, incentives and electric mobility.

🚗 In 2017, at the World Government Summit, Dubai’s RTA signed an agreement with Tesla for 200 Model S and Model X vehicles for the Dubai Taxi Corporation limousine fleet.

50 arrived in 2017.
75 followed in 2018.
75 more in 2019.

Today, Dubai is experimenting not only with electric mobility, but also with autonomous vehicles, smart transport and an increasingly diversified mobility ecosystem.

So yes, petrol has become considerably more expensive.

But the more interesting story is perhaps what happened around the petrol pump.

2010 → 2026: in 16 years, it’s not only the price of fuel that has changed. It’s the way the UAE imagines mobility.

🇦🇪 Se laisser surprendre par les Émirats arabes unis.

C’est ma mission depuis 2011.

Le 30 septembre, j’ai eu le plaisir d’embarquer les nouveaux arrivants du French Social Club pour un tour éclair à travers les différents visages de Dubaï.

Architecture et prouesses signées Zaha Hadid, Burj Khalifa, street art, quartiers plus populaires, création et culture à Alserkal Avenue et au Courtyard… L’idée : donner en quelques heures des clés pour lire la ville, comprendre ses contrastes et donner envie d’aller plus loin.

Et puis, sur ce chemin, une rencontre qui vient donner un visage et une histoire à ce que nous sommes justement en train de découvrir.

Ce jour-là, ce fut .zandii , fondateur du Courtyard dans les années 1990, qui nous a accueillis et nous a raconté son histoire et ses souvenirs, notamment autour de Wilfred Thesiger.

Un échange intime, généreux et profond. Un de ces moments où la magie du Moyen-Orient opère et donne soudain une autre dimension à la découverte.

C’est aussi cela, My Tour Studio Dubai : comprendre un territoire à travers son histoire, son architecture, sa culture, ses transformations… et parfois avoir la chance de croiser ceux qui en ont écrit quelques pages.

UNE VOITURE SANS CHAUFFEUR À DUBAÏ ? Même Marco a essayé

Nous avons testé une voiture autonome pour un trajet de 5 minutes à Jumeirah 3. Le plus déstabilisant ? Personne au volant… et pourtant, la voiture avance toute seule !

📱 Téléchargez l’application Apollo Go / Baidu, créez un compte et choisissez votre point de prise en charge. Attention : il faut parfois marcher jusqu’à une station désignée.

📍 Le service fonctionne actuellement à Jumeirah 1, 2 et 3, ainsi qu’à Umm Suqeim 1, 2 et 3.

Nous avons choisi Villa 515 pour découvrir l’expérience. Une fois habitué, le trajet est étonnamment relaxant. Les voitures sont confortables, avec massage et siège chauffant à l’arrière !

Quelques intersections restent toutefois déstabilisantes sans conducteur humain. 😂

Le prix ? Moins de 20 AED pour 5 minutes.

Une expérience originale qui montre une fois de plus que Dubaï nous fait découvrir le futur dès aujourd’hui.

Est-ce que nous recommencerions ? Absolument !
