RITORNI — THE AWAKENING OF ORIGINS

A work of art changes depending on how we look at it.
But can it also change depending on how we listen to it?

Among the stone, olive trees and architecture of Leonardo Trulli Resort, the works presented in Ritorni — The Awakening of Origins unfold along a path where contemporary art, memory and landscape are in constant dialogue.

Different forms, materials, colours and artistic languages transform our perception of space and the way we move through it. During the opening, sound became part of this dialogue.

With his performance “Una voce dalla pietra, il risveglio di ciò che ritorna” (A Voice from the Stone, the Awakening of What Returns), Alessio Nota created a sonic journey through the memory of the exhibition and its setting: ambient, drone and electronic textures accompany a movement from depth to presence, from memory to transformation.

Sound becomes more than an accompaniment: it becomes another language, entering the space of the artworks, altering their rhythm and suggesting a different way of experiencing and perceiving them.

This reel preserves a brief excerpt from that performance, bringing artworks, landscape and sound into dialogue once again.

Seven artists, seven languages, one landscape.

LUCA VERNIZZI | BEYOND APPEARANCES

What happens when the world around us ceases to be simply what we see?

A pair of glasses, a towel, a switched-off television. But also a landscape, a horizon, a place shaped by light.

In the painting of Luca Vernizzi, objects and landscapes—seemingly distant realities—are approached through the same attentive gaze: removed from the familiarity of everyday perception and restored to a new intensity.
Everyday objects acquire a monumental, almost absolute presence, freed from their function to become images in their own right.
Landscapes, by contrast, seem to suspend time: no longer mere views, but inner places, shaped by light, memory, and experience.

Vernizzi does not simply depict what he sees. He questions it.

Whether confronted with an object, a face, or a landscape, his gaze seeks what lies beyond the surface: a presence, a trace, something unexpected that belongs both to the world itself and to the way we perceive it.
Perhaps this is where the power of his painting resides: in his ability to make extraordinary what we had ceased to notice, transforming the familiar into a renewed experience of seeing.

Because in Vernizzi’s work, even what appears still continues, silently, to tell a story.

BEFORE THE IMAGE, THERE IS THE PROCESS.

A glimpse into Umberto Ciceri’s creative practice — where drawings, sketches and sequences reveal the thinking behind the finished work.

Ciceri’s research begins with observation. The human figure is studied through successive moments, broken down into fragments and sequences, before being reconstructed through the artist’s own visual language.

Drawing becomes a space for experimentation: a place where gestures are isolated, repeated and layered, and where the relationship between body, space and time gradually takes form.

These studies offer a rare look at the architecture behind Ciceri’s works. What appears immediate in the final image is the result of a process built through observation, intuition and continuous transformation.

From the first trace on paper to the finished work, the image is never simply reproduced. It is constructed, tested and allowed to evolve.

On 20 August 2026, Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery in Forte dei Marmi hosted the Dinner in Honour of the 2026 Artists of the Year, organised by AIMIG ETS.

An evening dedicated to art and its leading figures, during which Elisabetta Burschtein Rogai and Ynon Gal-On were honoured in an exceptional setting in the heart of Forte dei Marmi.

The day began in the afternoon with a visit to the Mitoraj Atelier in Pietrasanta, offering a unique opportunity to explore the creative world and artistic practice of the Master. The programme then continued at Oblong with the dinner and awards ceremony.

A special occasion bringing together art, culture and conviviality, while celebrating personalities whose artistic research continues to contribute to the contemporary art landscape.

A special thank you to our trusted partner NERO Lifestyle for their invaluable collaboration and continued support.

🗓 Opening: 4 settembre 2026, ore 18:30 (Alla presenza dell’artista)

Inhabiting Space Through Art.

At our space in Forte dei Marmi, artworks, materials, and architecture enter into dialogue, creating a journey shaped by encounters, contrasts, and resonances.

Each work retains its own identity, yet it is through its relationship with its surroundings that new interpretations emerge. Forms, colours, and surfaces transform our perception of the space, while simultaneously being transformed by it.

The exhibition layout thus becomes an integral part of the experience: not simply an arrangement of artworks, but a geography of the gaze, to be explored without haste.
