Wildflowers are full of surprises. You don’t plan where they’ll appear or what they’ll look like when they do. One day there’s an empty patch of ground; the next, it’s filled with colour.

In her piece “Wild Flowers,” Valerie Browning (The Paint Pixie.. Artist UAE) captures a sense of spontaneity through a collage of hand-printed papers on canvas, reimagining a few blooms gathered on a walk and placed in a vase.

That feeling of unforeseen beauty echoes in these books:

The Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam — a novel set in Afghanistan, which moves through the cost of decades of war and imperialism, following moments of love, loss, and unexpected human ties.

Latifa Al Haj’s (Latifa Al-Haj (لطيفة الحاج)) Arabic book takes readers on a poetic journey that moves through love, reflection, and the shifts of the heart across different seasons of life.

Like wildflowers blooming where they are least expected, these books show how purpose and connection can appear in life’s unexpected moments.

Both books are available at Kutubna’s bookshop in Nadd Al Hamar and on our website at kutubna.ae.

Visit us to experience the Collage Art Exhibition, which runs until August 31, 2026. We are open to the public daily from 10 am to 10 pm. Entry is free.

In this brief introduction to Kant’s ethics we look at how one of the western world’s most influential thinkers defined morality, duty, and universal law. A short lecture is followed by a discussion about how we know right from wrong. Bring your ideas, opinions, and friends!

This discussion is led by Dr. Shatha Almutawa, who holds a PhD from the University of Chicago, where she studied intellectual history. She has taught courses on philosophy and ethics at universities in the US and the Middle East. She is the founder of Kutubna Cultural Center.

Tickets are free for members and 50 aed for non-members. Register on our site at kutubna.ae or DM us for the direct link.

“Nobody comes to the person with no dallah.” — Emirati proverb

Preserving culture, honoring heritage, and repurposing with intention is what Qatar-based artist Razeena Abdurahman () does with her textile collage “Dallah.” Composed of reused fabric scraps carefully stitched together according to size and colour, the piece transforms discarded materials into a vibrant tribute to coffee rituals and the enduring tradition of hospitality.

You’ll find the dallah at the core of these two books:

“The Art of Arabic Coffee” by Medina Ilyas (): a unique guide born from 16+ years of research, exploring the etiquette, recipes, and soul of Arabic qahwa across the Arab world.

Dr. Saif Rashid Al Gaberi’s () Arabic book dedicated to coffee, covering its history, health benefits, types, and brewing methods.

So grab a finjan, flip through these pages, and let the history and craft of coffee come alive.

Both books are on sale at Kutubna’s bookshop in Nadd Al Hamar and on our website at kutubna.ae.
