"We thought we would return in a few weeks or months."

That hope was shared by countless Sindhi Hindu families during the Partition of India.

Ram Jethmalani, born in 1923 in Shikarpur, often recalled that Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Muslims had lived together peacefully for generations. Like many others, his family believed the separation would be temporary and that they would one day return home.

But history took a different course.

Homes were left behind. Childhood memories became distant. Generations grew up away from the land of their ancestors.
