The 4th visit of Dansema Dance Theatre to the UAE was remarkable not only because of the joy in the eyes of the little ones, but also as an exceptional case of institutional and grassroots support. If not a truly a lot of a good will from both institutional and private players, the three performances and one workshop in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, for children and for people of determination wouldn’t have happened.

We ate grateful to everyone who’s effort made it happen: the Embassy of Lithuania for the performance in Abu Dhabi, Yaraqa and Art Jameel for the invitation to perform at “Down to Earth” festival, Mawaheb to open their studio for the workshop, and the most heartfelt “thank you” to the grassroots support: the jamjar , Rebecca and Dalia . This celebration of the Colourful Fames on Saturday November wouldn’t have been possible Le without you.

We are incredibly grateful to Arts Council of Lithuania for financing this visit!

For me it feels like a beginning of a grassroots scene. Not single occurrences, attempts, initiatives, but a scene. After observing it sprouting over the years, I can see the dots finally getting connected. So thanks for those who connected those dots, whoever these people are. And thanks for as every initiative, every movement needs home. Congratulations to everyone involved I know and I don’t know!

With my greatest pleasure I am sharing as the project I’ve been working on over a year.

“Frontiers”. What does dance mean to you?

‘Frontiers: Contemporary Dance’ series presents three bold performances by up-and-coming choreographers, each reminding us that dance isn’t just confined to the body, it is an energy that erupts, transforms, and questions everything in its path.

The programme is presented in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue, the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, and Aerowaves –a hub for dance discovery in Europe committed to identifying and nurturing emerging choreographers, and is supported by Sima Performing Arts, Italian Cultural Institute Abu Dhabi and by ATER Fondazione.

Friday, 13 – Sunday, 15 December, Alserkal Avenue.

The initiative to promote and establish dance in Dubai and the UAE

Born out of a love of dance, our initiative wants to create awareness and promote the unique art form of dance. We want to place dance — its richness and diversity — on the cultural map of Dubai and the UAE by showcasing ravishing, innovative and thought-inspiring performances, fostering local dance artists and developing meaningful projects that contribute to the cultural development of the city, and therefore, the society.

Local and international contemporary dance for all audiences, programs of performing arts for special audiences, artistic exchanges and residencies, international artistic collaborations or educational and training programs are some of the projects we have in mind and are giving shape for the near future.

HIBA stands for Heike, Inês and Beata — our founders names — and in Arabic, hiba also means a gift from the heart… HIBA is our gift to you.
